Hello,

This calculator cannot handle symbolic algebra.

Use the rules to simplify the expressions: Get rid of the parentheses using distributivity od multiplication with respect to addition; group similar terms (terms with x, terms without x).

Hope it helps.

SOURCE: Argument error whenever I type equations with variables.

Perhaps you have some data stored in the x variable.

With the calculator on, press [2nd] then the minus button. This brings up a list of all the saved data in the calculator. Look through the far left column of the list for x.

If you find x in the list, highlight x, then press F1, and then select delete.

Now it should work like normal.

The following are examples of expressions:

2

*x*

3 + 7

2 ×*y* + 5

2 + 6 × (4 - 2)

*z* + 3 × (8 - *z*)

Example:

Roland weighs 70 kilograms, and Mark weighs*k* kilograms. Write an expression
for their combined weight. The combined weight in kilograms of these two people
is the sum of their weights, which is 70 + *k*.

Example:

A car travels down the freeway at 55 kilometers per hour. Write an expression for the distance the car will have traveled after*h* hours. Distance equals rate
times time, so the distance traveled is equal to 55 × *h*..

Example:

There are 2000 liters of water in a swimming pool. Water is filling the pool at the rate of 100 liters per minute. Write an expression for the amount of water, in liters, in the swimming pool after*m* minutes. The amount of water added
to the pool after *m* minutes will be 100 liters per minute times *m*,
or 100 × *m*. Since we started with 2000 liters of water in the pool,
we add this to the amount of water added to the pool to get the expression 100 ×
*m *+ 2000.

To evaluate an expression at some number means we replace a variable in an expression with the number, and simplify the expression.

Example:

Evaluate the expression 4 ×*z* + 12 when *z* = 15.

We replace each occurrence of*z* with the number 15, and simplify using the
usual rules: parentheses first, then exponents, multiplication and division, then
addition and subtraction.

4 ×*z* + 12 becomes

4 × 15 + 12 =

60 + 12 =

72

Example:

Evaluate the expression (1 +*z*) × 2 + 12 ÷ 3 - *z* when
*z* = 4.

We replace each occurrence of z with the number 4, and simplify using the usual rules: parentheses first, then exponents, multiplication and division, then addition and subtraction.

(1 +*z*) × 2 + 12 ÷ 3 - *z* becomes

(1 + 4) × 2 + 12 ÷ 3 - 4 =

5 × 2 + 12 ÷ 3 - 4 =

10 + 4 - 4 =

10.

**hope that help you**

The answer for the problem log(4) - log(2) is actually 0.301, so the good news is that your calculator is working properly! Here's a quick breakdown of the solution for the problem:

1) We know that log(x) = N means that 10^N = x. So in this case, we need to find a number that 10 can be raised to in order to get 4 and 2.

2) To get a better idea of what the answer to the problem will be, we look at the scale of the numbers. 4 and 2 are both smaller than 10. In order to raise any number to a power and get a smaller number, that power must be less than 1. If the power was 1 or greater, the answer would be more than 10. Therefore, we know that log(4) is a decimal less than 1 and log(2) is a decimal less than 1.

3) Now we'll simplify the problem. A logarithm rule states that:

log(x) - log(y) = log(x/y)

We can use this rule to simplify the equation in the problem.

log(4) - log(2) = log(4/2)

Since 4/2 = 2,

log(4) - log(2) = log(4/2) = log(2)

4) Now to solve the equation, the only thing that must be calculated is log(2). This would be done on a calculator. In step 2, we analyzed that log(2) must be less than 1. Therefore, the calculator is correct with the answer 0.301.

Hope this helped!

6x+6=4x+12

Since 4x contains the variable to solve for, move it to the left-hand side of the equation by subtracting 4x from both sides.

6x+6-4x=12

Since 6x and -4x are like terms, add -4x to 6x to get 2x.

2x+6=12

Since 6 does not contain the variable to solve for, move it to the right-hand side of the equation by subtracting 6 from both sides.

2x=-6+12

Add 12 to -6 to get 6.

2x=6

Divide each term in the equation by 2.

(2x)/(2)=(6)/(2)

Simplify the left-hand side of the equation by canceling the common factors.

x=(6)/(2)

Simplify the right-hand side of the equation by simplifying each term.

x=3

You may be able to find a program online that will automatically do what you want however if you don't have to do this too often you can just manually set "1" to a variable via the "STO-->" button (right above the "on" button-- select the value, pres sto-->, alpha and whatever variable you want) and set the ".75" to a variable.

Finding a program may be difficult for this type of program because you're trying to separate a whole number (essentially looking for a whole number and the remainder). You could always write a program for yourself but as I said before it might be a bit difficult.
