Just put a new cutter belt on MTD he4160 but now the cutter wont engage HELP please

Did you make sure the belt was touted correctly? If so, check to be sure that the tensioner pulley has the spring installed that will tighten the belt when cutter is engaged. Also check to be sure that any wiring that may be applicable to your machine is connected correctly. Hope this helps you good luck

Tractor pto grinds and wont engage, but if I disconnect the cutter. it works engage fine

Sounds like there may be a problem with the cutter.
Sometimes the drive/spindle connections get damaged (especially if you've been mowing rocks like I sometimes do).
Tell us what machine you are working with and we'll try to help.

Why will the cutter blades on scag SW36A not engage?

I am thinking this is a 12 volt PTO system that does not have a battery... this is where you need to check the wiring, especially the big white plug on the right side of the mower... It might also be a mechanical engagement system, if this is the case, suspect the belt popped of or is way out of adjustment

Bogs when blade is engaged

for this to happen you must have a bearing problem either in the gear box or cutter deck that has seized from rust or failed bearings. disconnect the cutter belts and see it t moves forward freely If so then turn each cutter spindle by hand and find which one won't turn or is rough in the movement.

Toro riding mower stopped cutting but still runs

Check if your drive belt has broken / come off the pulleys.
Also, if it has an electromagnetic cutter engagement, is it engaging the cutter drive?

Hi, I have a westwood t1500 with B & S engine which starts fine also runs fine with cutter disengaged, when cutter engaged it sends out clouds of white smoke and idles to a halt. Any ideas Regards ...

Sounds like the cutter is not turning free causing the engine to drag down and stop, I do not think the B&S engine is the problem. I have rebuilt dozens of these engines and most of the problems with a Briggs engine was dirt in the gas or carburetor that needed needle valve cleaned . If the cutters turn free, check for a bad or out of adjustment safety kill switch that engages and stops the engine as the cutters are engaged.

How do i change the blades

Disconnect the planer's power cord, then use the T-wrench that comes with the planer to remove the four screws that secure the top of the planer. Lift the top to remove it from the planer.
Remove the three wing nuts holding the dust cover over the cutter head. Rotate the dust cover up to unlock it from the fan housing, then push the cover to the left to disconnect it. Remove the dust cover from the planer to expose the cutter head.
Rotate the cutter head with a piece of scrap wood until the lock on the side of the cutter head engages. All eight screws in the cutter head clamp should now be visible. Remove the screws using the T-wrench, then turn the T-wrench upside down and use the magnet in the head of the T-wrench to grab the clamp. Remove the clamp to expose the knife underneath. Use the magnet to remove the knife.

Press down on the cutter head lock to free the cutter head. Use some scrap wood to turn the cutter head for access to the remaining two knives. Follow the instructions in Steps 3 and 4 to remove and replace those knives.

Does not work; nothing appears to be stuck in the blades. is there a way to reset the machine?

There is a switch that needs to be tripped when you put the cutter on top of the basket. Generally there is a tab on the basket that meets the cutter top switch. Check to make sure that the switch is being engaged when the cutter is placed on the basket. This occurs when either the cutter is put on the casket backwards or miss aligned on the basket.

Stalls when engaging cutter blades

The shaft that holds the blade could be rapped with something or needs a new bearing. Check again next to the deck, try a little WD 40 on the bearing.
