Question about Pool & Spa

Skimmer in deep end of the pool works when water level is up to the top of the opening. When it's half way I have to shut off the valve filter just pulls air. Any ideas how to diagnose and fix?

If water at the half way mark seems like plenty of water should flow into the skimmer, I would take a close look at what is stopping the water flow. The skimmer door should be free to lay horizontally.

SOURCE: pool pump won't prime

check for air leaks, cover o-ring is common culprit. anything in front of pump can cause this.

SOURCE: air in filter on hayward above ground pool.

This is common the first 30-60 seconds after turning the filter on. The filter is purging its self of the air, sometimes algae or small debris will shoot back into the pool as well.

If it is constantly getting air then replace your o-ring on the that clear cover (Strainer Cover) make sure you use a lubricant, and like djtc66 said re-wrap all threaded areas with teflon tape.

SOURCE: water surging back to pool when shut off

sounds like you have air built up inside the filter when the pump shuts off. the most likely cause is a suction side air leak, bad lid o-ring or union o-ring or maybe even the threaded fitting going into the pump. When you turn the pump off, you may be able to see water squirting out wherever the leak is. Once you find/fix the suction side leak the filter should stay filled with water and not surge backwards when the pump turns off. Make sure you keep the filter clean as well.

SOURCE: My Hayward sand filter is blowing air and debris

1. try to check your sand level. 2. check your valve, T-joint,elbow and pipes for any cracks or any gap between all connections. 3. check your motor pump male adapter. 4. make sure your water level reaches all suction. esp vacuum and skimmers. 5. try to use first the main drain or the pool bottom suction to jump start your pool and force to **** water not air. BTW make sure you close the vacuum and skimmer valve. this two suction may cause air suction. 6. sand filter has two types manual and automatic air pleasure release. if yours is manual its easier for you to release you must open it until the air comes out. if yours is automatic you have to wait for a while and follow most of my tips listed above.
One more thing USE PLUNGER if you had a mud of solid stuff stuck on your pipes . but do not over use this this may also damage your pipe is you use too much of this.

What setting do you put it on to drain the pool for plaster repair

There is usually a setting on the handle that says "Drain" but if not you can always use the Backwash setting to get all the water out of the pool or at least most of it.

My poolskimmer suction line is plugged what do i do

You need to get a blowbag attachment for the garden hose. Try t o isolate the line that is clogged by plugging or shutting valves to other suction lines.
Then open the pump and put the blowbag in the suction side. Turn on the water and the bag will expand to seal the pie while pushing water out the other end, toward the pool.
It helps to plug the skimmer end with your hand to let pressure build up, then release suddenly. After a few tries whatever is clogging the pipe should come out.

How do I remove air from pool filter lines?

with out seeing your set up not to easy, but lets try
1 your pump room is below surface of pool, make sure your pool level is high enough to return water to pump via the skimmer hole in side of pool at surface level. water should fil pump basket. check that you have a good seal on glass cover. no water in basket check if valve from pool is open still no water close valve fill filter chamber with a hose close glass cover start pump and open valve immediately.
2 pump room above pool level, close inlet valve fill pump filter with water close glass cover securely start pump and open valve.

Trying to open pool for my first time....not sure what to turn valves to so water will run into the filter from pool

red valve handles align with flow of water long ways the tail in direction of pipe valves open to open pool generally all Valves open Main drain (floor of pool). Skimmer square hole somewhere on side edge of pool... There could be a third Valve for a seperate Vacuming port (like mine) it can be either its below water line .. On the Round Sand filter theres a Multi port Valve I usually start the Filter in RECIRC mode .. While I net and gather debris then I add floculant leave on recirc two hours . Then Shut ALL down for 12 Hrs while all the algae and debris sinks to bottom . Water will be reasonably clear.. Make sure pools Extra full , And Vacum all on bottom on waste setting

How to properly vacuum my pool

attach hose to vacuum head, keep under water while you take the other hose end, and place in your pool, over the outlet, so the hose fills with water and all the air is out... then while keeping it below water level. move it into the skimmer, usually you remove the swinging door and the basket of your skimmer, and the hose fits down in. now while keeping the vacuum head under water, place your hand on the bottom to feel if you have suction. if so. you are good to go... go slowly, depending on how bad it is, you may have to go back and forth a bit, but it's not like carpet, ,,, if you go too fast, you will just stir things up.

when done, disconnect, and make sure you backwash your filter.

When I backwash or rinse my pump reservoir fills to the top when I filter I have air bubbles at pool discharge and reservoir about 3/4 full and air is evident. Do I need to start digging up my skimmer line...

When backwashing or rinsing the same water is used as in filtering.(skimmer and main drain) so I don't think skimmer damage is the issue. Check if the pool water is low at the skimmer after the backwash cycle, Also check to see if the skimmer weir gate (flapper) is stuck in the upright position. I would suggest 2 main checks. Fill the pool higher than usual, back wash, ensure the pool water level is 1/2 way up the skimmer level and try again. Also, if your lines are valved right, shut off the skimmer during the filter cycle and see what happens. Lastly, the gasket on your multi-port valve may be bad.

My Kreepy Krauly is working at half speed, any ideas? I've checked the tubing, no visible leaks, flapper works. Seems to pull air into the filter even after tubing is full of water. Both baskets clean.

Are you using a skimmer plate with the regulator valve or is connected direct to wall? Do you have a valve near pump that allows you to select skimmer or main drain or other input port? If so, select only skimmer. What is the pressure on your filter? Filter may need to be backwashed.

My pool pump won't prime

If the pump is above the pool water level the it is unlikly that the tank will fill completely with valves open (which is ok). Most pumps are self priming and will pick up a prime with water level below suction inlet on strainer. Try starting on main drain again and slowly open skimmer line. Did you remove water from skimmer line and winterize(if in cold weather climate)during closing?.I know this sounds stupid, but make sure water level in pool is well into skimmer. If air situation remains after scspriggs' and these thoughts then prepare for a pressure test on skimmer line to determine location of leakage.
