Question about Kenmore Washing Machines

Open Question

I have a Kenmore Elite front loader washer, model #796.40311900, the washer spins slow not fast as it should when the green light is on spin. The digital readout works normally.

When the washer was set on rinse and spin 20 Minutes , the drum would not spin fast, it would spin slow and sometimes speed up a little and it would take about 2 1/2 to 3 hours for the timer to count down from 20 minutes down to 1 minute and never finish the cycle when the GREEN light was on spin. Everything works normally, had a code but went away after washer reset.

""""""""SOLUTION"""""""" """""""UNPLUG THE WASHER FROM THE AC OUTLET""""""" ALWAYS USE CAUTION AND COMMON SENSE WHEN WORKING AROUND ELECTRIC AND WATER. This should work for several Kenmore front loader washers and models.... The problem is the wire harness that goes to the washer drum motor. There are two connectors, one BLUE and one WHITE, the BLUE connector is for the motor and the WHITE connector is for the stator. These connectors are located on the back of the washer to the left after removing the back panel. These connectors have a plastic bag over them to keep them dry. ( FOR ME, MY PROBLEM WAS THE WHITE WIRE ON THE WHITE CONNECTOR, THE WIRE HAD BROKEN BECAUSE IN THE FACTORY WHEN THEY WERE MAKING THE WIRE HARNESS THEY MADE PERFECT CIRCLE CUTS AROUND THE WIRES "SO CALLED STRESS CUTS" TO PREVENT WIRE BREAKAGE, BUT ALL IT DID WAS MAKE THE WIRE BREAK EASIER), the break was where the harness came down to the bottom of the washer, it rests on a plastic clip with a wire tie holding it to the plastic clip. "THIS IS WHERE MY HARNESS HAD THE BROKEN WHITE WIRE", it broke because they did not leave enough room for the harness to flex when the drum was spinning. Remove the damper/rotor its ONE CENTER BOLT,( was easier for me to get the connector off ) be careful when removing the connectors from the motor and stator. Disconnect the harness from both the blue and white connectors, from the motor side, and the zip tie holding the harness to the plastic clip on the bottom of the washer. There are also 3 plastic clips holding the wires stationary with 3 Philips screws. Use an ohms meter to check for wire breakage, FLEX THE WIRES WHEN CHECKING THEM TO MAKE SURE THERE IS NO BREAKAGE, remove the white tape, easier to cut it "( CAREFULLY )", and visually inspect the wires. """""MY WIRE REPAIR""""" I cut the wire back and soldered in a short wire extension, ( Same gauge or bigger not smaller ), and used heat shrink wrap to protect and seal the wire from moisture and shorting out. Use a good 3M electrical tape to re-wrap the two harnesses together and don't forget to put the connectors back in the plastic bag!!!!! If no problem is found check the rest of the harness going to the power control board. This fix should get your washer up and running again. """"""""""""ALWAYS USE CAUTION WHEN WORKING AROUND ELECTRIC AND WATER, BE SMART""""""""""""

SOURCE: Washer won't stop spinning

i am a recently retired appliance engineer of 20 years, if the fault is not right after he has called then write to the manager of the company, if he is sole operator then write to him, explaining it like you said above, ask that the engineer stay and watch till the very end of the cycle as thats where the fault is, if he has already worked on the machine fetch them back? alternatively just ask a different engineer who knows what he is on about, to me this sounds like a circuit board problem either the timer or main pcb module, i presume this is a computer control washer with a digital display, hope this has helped you at least as to where to start, thank you.

SOURCE: Kenmore 94802 - Goes through all cycles.. Doesn't stop after last spin cycle.

I hate to say it, but it sure sounds like a timer problem. There are contacts inside that move and switch items no matter what setting its in. Its a possibilty that the power contact is stuck closed and when you manually turn it off it breaks contact. The job to replace is really not that hard, remove console (unplug unit first), mark your wires, then just replace. The part though is a touch expensive (131789200 Sears Part Number). Probably would be a little cheaper than buying a new unit I guess. Let me know if you need any further information. Jim

SOURCE: Whirpool Duet won't spin clothes at high speed

Thinking of 2 things either the transmission is out or the clutch is burnt out and the drum basket and possibly the drive shaft broken as well. Prices vary greatly by how many of these things are broken but should run between 100-200 including labor.

Why is the timer is longer than it used to be. each load is about 20 minutes longer

Old washers used a large amount of water and detergent with a agitator scrubbing your clothes. Newer washers use a third of the water and soap as your clothes "flop" over and thru the detergent solution. So you need more time to wash. Also the spinning and rinsing are different. The speed of spin is twice as fast as the older standard washers were, to extract most of the water.

Try setting a lower spin speed. You may have a bulky load which the washer is having a difficult time getting up to the high speed spin you have selected. Also, did you know that on most LG washers, you can do just a spin without a rinse? Just turn the washer power on, then, without selecting a cycle, just push the spin speed selector to select the spin speed desired. This should set the cycle for about a 12 to 14 minutes pump and spin only. Then push start. You can spin that bulky load at the lowest spin, then try it again at the next faster spin if needed, without adding rinse water.

Our kenmmore front loader is having a problem with the pump. When it empties there is dirt with the water. Is there any way I can get at the pump and clean it? It is working 70% and as long as I have the drain hose on the ground the water will drain. When I shake the hose dirt comes out and sometimes it says F21. Can anyone help.

It sounds like your tub bearing is bad or going bad. It could be the adjustment on your spin cycle. Does your unit allow you to adjust this. Also are you overloading. Can you send me the brand and model of your unit and I help you more.

DOES IT DO THIS ON EVERY WASH OR SOMETIMES? IF SOMETIMES, CHECK LID SWITCH( THERE'S A LITTLE HOLE WHEN YOU OPEN THE LID, ON THE LID SHOULD HAVE A LITTLE PLASTIC PIECE THAT GOES IN THAT HOLE. THE SWITCH IS UNDER, INSIDE THAT HOLE. YOU CAN GET A PEN OR KEY TO SEE IF IT'S BROKEN.)

Kenmore 110 washer drum spins with lid open during Rinse/Spin

Slow agitator could be linked to shaft bearings going south. Pull the agitator off and check the block on top of the shaft. With everything turned off, try to turn the shaft. It should turn freely both ways. Other things to slow down the works could be a very worn drive belt from the motor.
The lid switch problem seems to be a wiring short--trace the wiring back from the switch to where ever it ends up (at the timer?). If it winds up at a relay, the contacts may be stuck together. It would be nice to have a wiring diagram--ah well. Don't know if any of this helps, good luck.
