Kawasaki 17hp fh500v won't start.

Did you try to use a little starting fluid to get it going. If you did and it would not fire, then you have no spark at the plug. If you did and it did fire, then you have no gas getting to the carb.

Where is the timming point indicator on an old 3800 series

You have a failed fuel pump, if it was timing related it would not run on starting fluid. The fuel pump ids located inside the fuel tank, the fuel tank must be removed to access the pump

95 softail classic started and was warming up and just died and wont start, will fire with starter fluid but thats it, will not keep running, has appr. 30,000 miles

If the bike will fire with starter fluid but won't run on it's own, I'd say you have a fuel problem. In 1996, Harley introduced a vacuum operated fuel petcock. I see that you say your bike is a '95 model but Harley has always been known for crossing over year models with certain parts. Say you bike was built in late '95 and they ran out of the "old" style petcock. They just switched to the "new" style at that time instead of making more "old" style parts. That's where the term "transition model year" came from. So, check your fuel petcock and the vacuum line running to it. Pull the fuel hose off the petcock and spin the engine. Watch for the fuel flow and determine whether it is sufficient. If not, replace the petcock. Personally, I went to a Pingle manual fuel petcock. Of course, you have to plug the vacuum hose as it's no longer used. But, that was the end of petcock problems on my bike. Just turn your fuel on and off manually, "old school" style.

Good Luck

Hi. Replace the air filter. Then use some starter fluid and an assistant. Spray some starter fluid into the air intake as you start it up and keep spraying so that it runs on the starter fluid for a few seconds until it really takes off. J.

If this does not do it then you will have to have the carburetor rebuilt as it has hardened gunk in it.

Tractor wont start

For a small gas engine than won't start, think FAST -- Fuel, Air, Spark, Timing. You've replaced the filters and spark plugs and squirted in some starter fluid, eliminating the simple common fuel, air, and spark problems -- but I because of the backfiring I think your problem is in the timing -- like a sticking valve. Probably more than you want to tackle at home, but might not be as expensive as an engine replacement. Take it to a good small engine mechanic -- best bet is a lawn equipment shop that has been around many years. Drive a little farther to get to one if necessary.

Have you checked the starter motor? It sounds like it is bad. You might be able to remove the blower housing cover and physically turn the starter teeth and then try to start (after putting the cover back on). If it tries to start then you have a bad starter (dead spot on the winding). Just replace the starter and you should be good.
Good luck!

14 hp dynamark tractor that won't start

Have you checked the inline fuse?. Also you could unplug the ignition switch and clean the terminals, particuarly the one with red wire in it. That the one that has constant power to it and tends to corrode over time. Hope that helps.
