I had this problem with a different model. It's caused by a thermal cutout switch in the motor. My problem was a result of a filter being removed and the bag not seated correctly, hence dirt got into the motor and clogged the turbine, reducing airflow through the motor and causing the over heating.
If your motor runs at all, you probably have a blockage. Replace the filter inside the bag compartment just before the motor vent. Check the hose isn't blocked. Check the exit air filter.
If your turbine is clogged, it's a big disassembly job best done by a professional. If you really want to know how to cure it and feel you can tackle it yourself, email me. alan_at_alanjohnston_dot_com.
If your motor doesn't run at all and the light just quietly comes on, you have a break somewhere in the thermal protection circuit, either in the wiring (unlikely) or inside the circuitry buried inside the motor itself. I had an open on the thermal switch where the combination of heat and vibration deoldered the thermal switch from its board.
Hope this helps.
