SOURCE: I have a black box going across my screen with blue numbers

Make sure closed captioning is turned off on the TV as well as your cable box or satellite receiver (if you are using them and they have that feature). Captioning is probably on and set for text mode.

Surround Sound to 8 or 9 8 is best
Direct TV to 10

SOURCE: I have an existing Foxtel

The problem is with the Foxtel, it has just a single set of outputs so you will need to attach some RCA splitters on the yellow red and white connectors if you want to record from it.
You will need four cables: one HDMI , one RCA cable (YRW) and 2 with RCA (YRW) at one end and a SCART at the other  - make sure its a SCART IN plug.
Connect the HDMI form the OUT on the dvd to the IN on the tv, and one RCA cable from the AV OUT on the tv to one of the SCART IN on the dvd. Put the RCA splitters (one RCA father to 2 RCA mother) in the Foxtel RCA out and 2 cables in them - one cable will go to the AV IN on the tv, the other to the SCART IN on the dvd.

My question is I connected an AV cable to my Hisense LED Tv 40 inch and there is no sound.

Chk the input and output connection if possible chk in other slot
First check that the AV cables are connected to the "AV OUT" ports in the DVD player that sends signal out of the player and into the TV. The next step is to connect the other end of the AV cables into the TV. Make sure the red & white cables are inserted in "AUDIO IN or L/R" which will guarantee fix the audio.

Why does my emerson 32In TV not find a channel for the DVD player that is running?

Check all the input connections once again. Check input cords. Change the cord and check. Sounds you have connected it to receive signals as AV. Select the input at TV to AV. If colors of the wire connected doesn't match the colors of the sockets at both TV and DVD end; this type of fault can occur. Anyway, check the connections and the colors of socket & wire do match, once again.
If all are found ok; and still you do not get signals, the main board to your TV should be troubleshooted. Contact any service technician.

We have a digital tv but an anologue vcr so we bought a strong srt 5430 so we can record through our vcr but are having trouble conecting the vcr and set top box

You need a cable to go between the yellow (picture), red and white (sound) sockets on the strong to the VCR.

Those cables will connect to one of the VCRs AV inputs. You then need to use the VCR remote control to switch from the now defunct analogue tuner to the Line or AV input. Put your TV on the channel you use to watch video tapes. Switch on the Strong receiver. Do the switch to the Line or AV input on the VCR. When your VCR is on the correct input then you will see the picture from the Strong receiver on the TV. You can confirm it is the correct source by displaying the Strong's EPG.

When you come to make recordings, the Strong will need to be left on the channel that you want to tape. If your TV already has an aerial feed and isn't relying on the strong for its signal then you can watch another channel on TV.

Make sure you are connecting the red and white connectors to Audio IN on the TV.

You really should be using a HDMI wire though...

I have the remote for my sanyo mts tv but i cant find out how to get it to switch to video mode so i can play games on it there is no button

There is button on your remote labeled TV/AV . Press the button to get a blank screen with AV written on the screen. If your game device is connected at the back to this AV socket ( Yellow / Red / White ) you will see the game menu display.
On some of the TV remotes it might not be written TV/AV but INPUT SOURCE or just a picture of a TV screen with an arrow pointing inwards ( that LOGO is the universal symbol for INPUT )

I have an Onn 15'' LCD TV Model No OLCD1504 and am trying to connect a DVD player that only has an AV out.I have tried connecting it with a Scart to Av lead in all combinations i.e. via freeview box,direct...

Some dvd players do not have the switching line fro your tv to automatically select scart input but you will be able to select via the tv remote if there are no buttons marked av it can be an oblong with an arrow pointing inwards or you may have to select via the source menu on the tv if you have your original handbook it will give a helpline number for Asda.SUPER8.
