I have a ASUS U64E that I purchased 2/2012 and repaired in 8/2013.
At six months, the lid hinges started becoming lose and noisy. I removed the
hinge covers to tighten the hinge-to-case screws but they were not loose. It
was difficult to tell what the problem was without further disassembly. I let
the situation alone until recent failure of the one hinge with the opposite
side also near failure.

With the laptop out of the one year warranty, I searched and
watched various Youtube videos on ASUS screen replacement as the screen needs
to be removed to gain access to the lid hinge mount points. The failure is the with
lid hinge mounts to the lid frame.

My repair involved 1) regluing the lower part of the lid
inner frame to the lid, and 2) reducing the friction of the hinges by loosening
the hinge nut about 1/8th of a turn. On my unit, the hinge friction
was too tight putting a lot of stress on the hinge mount. I used Gorilla glue
for the repair.

The following videos are helpful for removing the screen:

I also removed the keyboard and touchpad assembly to inspect
and clean the cooling fan which was very dirty.

The repair is holding and the lid action feels good with the
reduced friction.

We have a PS 2 slim silver console and the discs won't spin.

If its still under warranty then send it back to Sony to fix it. If not the problem probably is one of the tabs that trigger the switches might be broken off. the tabs are the plastic protrusions on the lid. if the switches are not hit the ps2 will think the lid is still open and will not spin the disc.

My machine quit running part way through the cycle...

This problem is commonly caused by a lid switch malfunction. If the washer fills and doesn't do anything, or stops right after the wash cycle and then does not advance to the rinse cycle or drain, I would recommend you check your lid switch first. Due to the amount of wear it is the most common cause of these symptoms and least expensive to repair.

The lid switch is usually mounted under the washer top casing, on the right hand side on most top load models. It is activated by a plastic piece on the lid (called a "Lid Strike") through a small hole on the rim of the wash tub opening. In many cases the lid strike breaks off the lid, or the lid switch becomes loose and no longer makes contact. Inspect the lid to make sure the lid strike is still intact, and then inspect the mounting screws (adjacent to the small opening on the wash tub rim) and make sure they are snug.

If the switch is not activated by a lid strike, it will activated by a hinge actuator located next to either the left or right lid hinge. You will need to remove the operator console in order to access this type of switch.

NOTE: On this type of lid switch the lig hinge has a small rod that is used as an acutator to toggle the switch. In many cases, you can adjust the rod by bending it if the switch is not making contact.

If you determine the switch to be defective, the following link explains how to replace one:

If parts are needed, a replacement can be purchased on line at searspartsdirect.com, pcappliancerepair.com, repairclinic.com, appliancepartspros.com. All these sites offer competitive pricing, so shop all of them for the best price.

If you have questions, please post back with your complete model number (located along the wash tub rim under the lid), so that I may be able to provide you with better assistance. I hope this hel.ps you

Sony VGN AR630

If the lid has a small slack and then is firmer again when the lid/screen is in another position, then the hinge mounting screws is most likely loose and the mounting screws needs to be tighten.
If the hinges are loose no matter what the position of the lid/screen is in then, they need to be replaced, there is no adjustment to tighten the hinges.

Washer fills with water but wont drain

Check your lid switch. If your washer fills and doesn't do anything, or stops right after the wash cycle and then does not advance to the rinse cycle or drain, the problem is commonly caused by a lid switch malfunction. If you determine the switch to be defective, the following link explains how to replace one:

If the switch requires replacement, a new one can be purchased on line at searspartsdirect.com, pcappliancerepair.com, repairclinic.com, appliancepartspros.com. Just use your model number as your search criteria. All these sites offer competitive pricing, so shop all them for the best price.

NOTE: Some washer models have the lid switch located near either the left or right hinge of the lid. This type of switch is activated by a rod on the hinge pin. If not functioning, it can often be adjusted by bending the hinge rod until it engages the switch.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

PS You do not have to drain the washer to complete this repair. Once the switch is replaced the washer will drain on its own. This may save you the need to bail water again.

It sounds like you have a bad lid switch. If you open and close the lid, you should hear a distinctive "clicking" sound as the lid switch is activated when the lid closes. If you hear no sound, you need to check the following:

Some washers have the lid switch under the right-hand side of the wash tub opening and is activated through a small slot on the wash tub casing rim by a small plastic piece on the lid called a lid strike. If this is the type you have, make sure the lid strike is still intact or the switch will not activate. Check the two mounting screws next to the slot and make sure they are present and tight. These are the mounting screws that hold the lid switch in place. If they come loose it can prevent the switch from activating.

Newer models have the lid switch mounted under the washer casing in the left-hand rear adjacent to the left washer lid hinge. The switch is activated by a rod on the lid hinge. Sometimes a simple adjustment of this rod can correct contact problems.

No matter what configuration you have, if you make all these preliminary checks and the switch still does not work, replace it. The following link will give you step-by-step instructions on how to accomplish this:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385198-replacing_lid_switch

If you require further assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

PS If you provide me with your COMPLETE model number (located under the washer lid along the tub rim) I can also assist you with locating parts.

Drum wont spin

The problem is your lid switch. This is a common problem that can be easily fixed. If you click on the following link, it gives you step-by-step instructions on how to replace a lid switch.

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385199-replacing_lid_switch_whirlpool_top

Typically, the lid switch becomes loose, or the contacts eventually fail from repeated use. If you open and shut the washer lid, you should be able to hear a "clicking" sound as the lid switch activates with the lid closing.

The switch is located on the the right-hand side of the lid on some models, and is activated by a plastic piece on the lid, called a "lid strike". Make sure the lid strike is still intact.

On other models the lid switch is located on the left-hand side under the washer casing near the left lid hinge. It is activated by a small rod that closes the lid switch contacts when the hinge pivots. Sometimes a simple adjustment of this rod will cure a lid switch problem.

If you post back with your model number, I can tell you which type of lid switch you have. Typically, they range in price form about $25 to $35. I hope this helps you.

PS Pine Sol would not cause this problem. I think this is just a coincidence.
