Hi there. Empisal EM-250 Deluxe Sewing Machine, I'm realy battling to get the tension, top and bottom, and the material doesn't want to go thru by itself. PLEASE can you help?? Regards, Adri

If the fabric will not feed through it suggests that the feed dogs have possibly been left down.
Getting tension right is really a matter of trial and error. Work through them starting with lowest number on the upper first leaving the lower tension alone. If you need to change the lower tension, do it by very slight turns of the bobbin screw and note carefully which way you turn it and by how much as there are no numbers to follow.

You might check that there is no lint trapped in the tension discs before starting as this can cause problems. Run a thick thread through them to clean.

Poppie, are you still stuck? I have a vintage Empisal and did the same thing - but I finally figured out how to put the tension back together. Check out my blog to see if you have a similar machine and I may be able to help.

Needle hits bobbin case

If the needle hits the bobbin case the are only 2 things that could be wrong. Lets hope its the easy one, there are more than one length of needles, if the needle is to long or it is not all the way up in the neelde bar, the needle will hit the inside of the bobbin case. Now if that is not the problem then the machine is out of time. ALWAYS check the easy stuff FIRST.

With the needle hitting the bobbin case , it sounds like it might be out of time. Which I am sorry to say is not an easy at-home fix.
