Situation:
When attempting to run an operation in Ghost that requires a reboot into the virtual partition, you receive the error "Unable to find a free MBR slot in virtual partition.dll--usually due to no free slots on disk."

Solution:
This problem occurs when the client computer has used up all four primary partitions in the partition table of the boot drive. An Extended partition takes up one Primary Slot, so having three Primary partitions and one Extended partition would also cause this issue.

Computer architecture allows each hard drive to have no more than four primary partitions (the other partitions are extended partitions). Because the Ghost Virtual Partition is implemented as a primary partition, you see this message when the disk is using all four primary partitions and does not have an available slot for the virtual partition.

Use one of the following methods to resolve the problem
  • Start the computer from a Ghost bootable floppy disk rather than a Ghost Virtual Partition. You can use Ghost Boot Wizard to create a Ghost Standard Book Disk for this purpose.
  • Repartition the disk. If you repartition the disk, ensure that you create backups of your data before doing so.

When I star up my computer Toshiba a135-S4427, it boots up and then goes to a blank black screen. I am unable to get to the log in screen. It just sits there, I can hear the processors and the fans...

Seems a problem with RAM. Remove your RAM from the slot and start the PC, long beep sounds are audible, then the RAM is OK, else time to buy a new RAM/ memory.
Else Try for the Hard Disk, Check the Hard disk in your's friend's PC, remove his Hard disk and insert yours, if the same problem arises, change the Hard Disk or if nothing happens, system boots,
it seems a problem with motherboard, Get it repaired by a expert or buy a new one.this will work.
Enjoy !!! Thank you for using Fixya !!!

I have a Philips HTS 6500 HTIB receiver. It started to show a "No disk" message when trying to play dvds. It seems like a common problem for this device. I have some experience with electronics but I am...

First, I commend you for taking the initiative and tackling this yourself. Every device that loads through a slot has a device that prevents a disk from being loaded when there is already a disk loaded. This is the device (the two pins) that you are describing. What you need to do is disassemble the unit again and while reassemling check at each step to make sure the pins are out of the way (usually down).

The pins are usually connected to the loading mechanism itself by gears, so it may be necessary to manually turn a gear or belt (very gently!) to get the mechanism to a position to accept a disk. Most likely this won't work by itself, but it might. If it doesn't, then separate the pin mechanism from the loading mechanism, get the loading mechanism into a position to accept a disk. That is, not in the position where the disk is being "read" by the machine, and put the two mechanisms back together, of course with the pins out of the way, and try it out. It may take a time or two to get the gears in just the right position to work right, but you seem to have the ability.

I hope this helps. If not, please post what happens, and i'll do what ever else I can to help.
