It is in a canister near the pump. Take it out and wash it with water.

On my coates 18kw pool heater it keeps blowing the small fuse that supplies theon/off switch and the controlboard..

It could be a bad coil in one of the relays for the heating elements. Model number off the side label will help. Age of unit and voltage will help with trouble shooting.

They are referring to the strainer basket inside the filtration pump, and the pool filter system itself. The indication is either this basket is full of debris or the pool filter is so dirty you do not have enough water flowing through the heater. A safety device in the heater is shutting down the heater to prevent damage. None of the parts you named are inside the heater.

Pool filter not doing its job

try using a clarifier that you add into the skimmer such as Clearex 500.
The flocculent only makes particles drop to the pool floor, a liquid clarifier actually coates the sand and will filter smaller particles. Also, check the o-rings on the backwash valve. If the o-ring(s) are damaged it may be letting some water bypass the filter.

We have A Coates pool electric heater and the heater poped the reset twice. How do you test for bad elements.

turn the power off and take an ohm meter to check for contunity from the electric wiring to ground at the heaters. If you have contunity from the heater to ground the element is bad. To check which element, disconnect the wiring at the elements and check each elememt seperatly. If you need more specific details, let me know and I can post a pictorial of the process on my company website for you to review.

Laars Lt heater will not start- pressure switch light

it is time to check your filter make sure is not dirty and if your filter is clean and still doing this then the problem can be with one of the safety sensors they do have 2 hight limit switch located in the heater heather they re round with two wires on each one turn power off to heater and get a voltemer reader and check the hight limits for continuty they should read zero on your metter it can be your temp sensor heaters are so complicated that it is always good to have a pool tech service it I was a pool tech in california but now I am located in georgia

I have a new coates heater and it takes 3 hours to heat my spa up

make sure the water flow is the same and the size of the heaters are the same. it sounds like the new one might not be the same kw.
there really isn't a solution to the heating not being the same if you have good water flow and the kw is the same as the old one.
