This has to do with a problem with the stapler unit in the finisher. The book says that the stapler unit is not being detected to be in the home position. See that the staple cartridge is not out of place and the stapler unit is free to move back and forth.

Remove the drum, on top of drum there is cork, remove cork and vacume all the waste toner out.

that error can be related to the transport assy that you pull out not going back in properly. make sure you push it back in firmly so it locates into the connectors in the rear properly. the manual says a problem with the primary corona unit but my experience is the tray. tis is a common problem even on the new models ir9000 series that use the same set up.

try this solution: enter service mode by pressing *(additional function) then2 and 8 together and then again * select copier on screen>function>clear>error>ok. turn off the machine and re-start.
