SOURCE: Have a Hoover model S3670

I usually test the motor with a cord with alligator clips on the wires, and attach them to the black and white wires on the motor ( remove the belt first ). A very common problem with this model was a short circuit developing in the short cord that runs from the nozzle motor into the swivel neck. This is probably where the problem lies. Replacing the cord is best left to someone with experience.

How can I replace belt?

Turn the unit upside down remove screws that hold the cover on over the beater brush. Remove the beater brush and replace the belt. One end will go on the one side or middle of the brush and the other to the motor pin. Replace cover and done.

Power spen brushes move very slow or stop

Not sure if you are speaking of a vacuum or steam cleaner or ?
If it is a vacuum, sounds like the beater brush is freezing up. Follow the directions to replace the drive belt. When you get the beater brush off the unit, clean it as best you can. Add a bit of WD40 between the ends of the beater brush and the hard rubber pieces that hold it in place. Before reassembling, turn the brush while holding the pieces one at a time to be sure the beater brush turns freely. When you reassemble, be sure the belt is properly installed.
If you find this solution to be helpful, I would appreciate an appropriate Thumbs Up rating from you.
Be well, Paul

The motor is spinning and spinning the beater motor but the beater bar wont spin

Check to see if the drive belt to the beater is broken. Also, remove the beater brush and clean as best you can. Add some WD40 at both ends of the brush where the hard rubber/plastic pieces are that hold it in the unit. Spin the beater by hand to make sure it moves freely.

Our vaccum cleaner does not clean up.

If the floor unit is not picking up, check for a broken belt for the beater brush or for a frozen beater brush. Might be a good idea to remove the beater brush and clean it of any debris and squirt some WD40 on the two end pieces that hold the beater brush to the vacuum itself. Turn the brush by hand to be sure it is free and reassemble. Make sure the belt is properly attached so it moves the brush in the correct direction.
If you find this to be helpful, I would appreciate you providing me with a thumbs up rating. Thank you. Paul

Belt broken

Check your owner's manual for information on changing the belt. Also, a good idea to check to see if your beater brush is moving freely or has bogged down or even frozen up. Remove the beater brush, clean completely and lubricate the space between the beater brush and the plastic retainers on each end with a bit of WD40. This usually solves 90%+ of the described problem.

Why doesn't my vacumm floor piece work?

Not sure which unit you have but normal repairs would be to the wiring of the floor fixture and to check to see that the beater brush is turning properly. If the brush is not turning it could be a broken belt or the fact that the beater brush is frozen. Remove the brush and clean as best you can, paying close attention to the plastic holders at each end of the beater brush. Squirt a bit of WD40 into the space between the plastic and the beater brush and rotate by hand to make sure it is free. Reassemble and put in a new belt just in case.
Please contact me if you have any questions. Paul

The brush roller will not engage although the belts look good. Hoover upright windtunnel.

Sounds like the beater brush is frozen and won't turn. Remove the beater brush and clean off all debris, especially at both ends. You will find a square(?) piece at each end of the beater brush that holds it in place. This need to turn freely. Put a little WD40 on these where the center rod of the beater brush enters the small holders and turn by hand until they turn freely. Once this is done, assemble with new belt, making sure the belt is put on properly.

I can not get the new belt to rotate on my vaccum. The roller will not turn when it is put back in place. Any suggestions?

If by roller you mean the beater brush that the belt is attached to, you might try taking the beater brush out of the unit and clean both ends. There should be some kind of plastic or rubber holders on each end of the beater brush. The brush itself is supported by these holders, but the brush needs to be able to rotate in the holders. Sometimes they get gummed up and need to be cleaned in order for the brush to turn freely. Clean them up, apply some WD40 and make sure the belt is properly attached. Hope this helps.

On our Hoover U6445-900 (Mach 6.9) we replaced the small belt that goes to beater brushes in front of unit. Upon starting, the Hoover quickly got hot and smoky. We shut it off and looked things over...

are you sure you purchased the right size belt..the friction you speak of is usually caused by a belt not being the right tightness or a jammed beater brush

Check that the beater bar is completely clear of thread, this will bring the brush roll back to normal. Also check the sides of the brush roll doesn't have anything such as thread or thick string at the sides.
