SOURCE: unlock bios master boot password

Openthe back of the machine, under the PCMCIA slot, and find the EEPROM with 8 pins.

Short pins 3 and 6 for about 2 seconds after pressing the power button, then it "should"say:

***Manufacturing Mode - Level [1]***

Press Fn-X to return tonormal mode" then when you see this, press F2.

After bioscomes up, press ESC, choose "Save and exit" then reboot.

No more master boot password.

SOURCE: dell inspiron 1545 has authentication

The aim is to reset the BIOS so that data concerning passwords are cleared out. This is done by moving a jumper on the motherboard.( The biggest challenge is to find it).

Note that: This procedure also resets the BIOS settings. If you have made changes, this manipulation will reset these features to default.

  • Step 1: Turn off your PC and unplug the power cable and open your system unit. Touch the chassis of the casing with a metallic object to discharge static electricity.
  • Step 2: Check the documentation for your motherboard to locate the position of the jumper, that reset the BIOS. If you don't have any manual, look on your motherboard one of the following tag: CLR BIOS, CLEAR BIOS, CLR CMOS, CLEAR CMOS, RESET BIOS or RESET CMOS. It is usually near the CMOS battery on the motherboard.
  • Step 3: Find the jumper on your motherboard reset it. It is usually close to the battery.

If the jumper is on 3-connector pins, place it on the middle and the initially uncovered pins.
Wait for some time and put the jumper in its original position (PIN1-PIN2).
If the jumper is on a 2-connector pins and that it holds on a single pin, place it on both, wait one second and then return it to its original position.
  • Step 4: Power up and start your PC: the password has disappeared.

sile_1972487,

You will need to contact Dell Support in order to have them verify ownership of the system and then provide you with a bios reset. I do not have access to the tool that resets bios passwords.

1) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5JqB4lkVxkA

2) Or take the laptop to the nearest authorized Dell repair shop; your ID, proof of purchase of laptop, and a credit card. Dell representative will ask Dell for a Master Password. Dell rep will then reset to NO password, or one you want. Dell rep KEEPS master password.

Removing CMOS Battery (Real Time Clock Battery. Also called Coin-Cell battery), will NOT work.

Dell latitude c510/610

Hi foforera,

This sounds like either a HARDDRIVE PASSWORD or a SYSTEM PASSWORD. Especially if the prompt appears every time you turn on the PC. If this is the case, all I can say is that you should write down the exact message and call up or chat with Dell Technical Support since they are the only one's who can give you a password for that.

If the password you're talking about is the Windows logon password, then I would recommend that you find someone who has an administrator logon, and from there you can actually remove the password of your account. You can also go into Safe Mode, then log into the Administrator account, and from there remove the password on the account you are using.

Hope this helps!

Peace! :)
