Question about Philips DVDR630VR DVD Recorder/VCR
My cd won't play. it says no disc I have the philips dvdr630vr dvd recorder / vcr combi and when I put a blank dvd disc in to record something it reads the dvd then rejects it and says unknown disc please check disc again then opens up and the disc comes back out could you please assist me on this.Thank you.
With reference to your Philips DVDR630VR DVD Recorder / VCR Combo - no CD play & no DVD recording, a couple of ideas.
Perhaps what is needed is a bit of cleaning of the laser eye. Rather than recommend that you open the unit up and do a manual cleaning, maybe you can try using one of those CD cleaners that are available in most computer shoppes. It looks like a regular CD except that it has a small soft brushlike protrusion on its surface, the function of which is to clean the lens of the DVD's laser eye.
I should also mention that at other times, a DVD recorder can be rather "choosy" of the blank discs it will accept. I was made to understand that Philips recommends Sony, TDK, Imation, Verbatim, RiDATA, Panasonic, and most other known brands to be used when recording but none of the generic brands.
Should the above be not corrective, pls take into consideration the length of time the DVD has been used. I understand that Philips recommends regular inspection and maintenance after every 1,000 hours of use. In some instances, the laser eye simply burns out, deteriorates or cease to function. Further, there are likewise instances that it needs re-alignment/calibration. Am afraid that any of the aforementioned conditions would require that you seek the services of a qualified technician for a hands-on repair job. Alternately and probably better is to bring it in to a Phillips Service Center. Any of these services required specialized instruments & tools and not only basic electronics.
Hope that this be of some help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.
Good luck and kind regards.

This happens sometime when the drop
down menu in the recording program is
not set correctly for the dvd recorder it
may be set for another recording device
or the dvd player. If this in not the case
try removelng the dvd recorder in device
manager and leting it reinstall
