SOURCE: fargo pro-l using too much ribbon

Hi,
It sounds like you may need to calibrate the ribbon sensor.

Go to the driver icon in your printers folder.

Right click on the Pro-L driver's icon, and select "Printing Preferences".

Click on the "Advanced" button in the lower right corner. A new window will open.

Scroll to the bottom and you will see "Calibrate...". Click on that and a button appears next to it that says "Properties...". Click the "Properites" button and another window appears.

On this screen, you'll see a button on the right side that says "Sensors...". Click on it, and yet another window opens. Almost there.

Here, you'll see two sections. The top section is for calibrating the ribbon sensor, the bottom is for the lamination sensor. Remove the ribbon and close the lid. Click on the "Send" button in the top section to calibrate the ribbon sensor. Your printer should beep twice.

After that, hit cancel on the previous windows to close out everything.

Normally this fixes this kind of problem, but if it doesn't, then there is something broke in the printer, possibly the sensor itself.

SOURCE: printer prints too light and not threw all copies of form

It's been a while, but I remember that that model has a print pressure setting on it; check your manual for the location on your model.
You should be able to print a 3-part form again.

Also, with the gradual demise of dot matrix, I suspect the available ribbons might already be somewhat dried out when purchased.

You can experiment as follows with an old cartridge that simply has a dried out ribbon that is not too badly wrinkled:

Carefully pry open the housing of the cartridge; they are not normally glued.
You will see the ribbon standing on edge, randomly snaking through the housing, and a round wheel that looks like a dense sponge; that's because it is.
Over a sink, spray WD-40 from a distance over the ribbon and then closer up, the wheel itself - DON"T overdo it! It will make blotchy print if you do.
Close the case again.

I have had the best results when using a drill motor attached to the provided finger nub that sticks up from the top to circulate (slowly!) the ribbon a few times; this will distribute the softened ink over all of the cartridge's ribbon.

I'm not that tight but have bought dried-out ribbons and live too far from the city to just run back to stuff it in their faces.

Ribbon doesn't come up for the print wheel to hit it

First try a milti part form if it prints on the copy it's a ribbon, if not you probably have a broken print solenoid cap. If bthe ribbon isn't lifting sprat some WD40 on the ribbon motor. If this is an older machine there there is a large black gear on the R. side of the printer wiggle it it should move freely they do get tooth for tooth and not lift. We vsell print solenoid caps for 20.00 includes shipping and instructions.

How to replace a print head on a T2265 sprint pro

Tally Genicom T 2265 Printer print head. The following information regarding Print Head is taken from Website. Please go through carefully. Print heads are very sensitive from the type of ribbons you use. These textile tapes, used as consumable in dot matrix printers are made by special technologies. They are impregnated with ink and special oils, which lubricate the print head wires during printing. While print head works, the quantity of ink and lubricant in ribbon exhausts, and the quality of printed matter gradually declines. When this quantity goes down below certain limits the ribbon begins wear to threads. These fine textile fibers mix with cellulose filaments from the paper and form a dark gray dust. This is a sure sign that the ribbon is dangerously worn and must be changed with a new one. Otherwise you will soon need a print head repair service. Still not satisfied about those points, please get in touch with local authorized printer service engineer to set right the issue. Have a Nice Day The same problems you may have with "old" ribbons, because after time the lubricants and inks get dry. The usage of "worn" or "dry" ribbon leads to difficult movement of the printhead's wires, its quick wear or crush. If you wish to use your printhead for a long time without any problems, you must use a quality ribbons with an original guarantee. Never use re-inked old ribbons. This surely guides you to print head repair or to buy a new one. It is a good idea to read the User's Guide for your printer, if you have not already done so. If you don't succeed in finding it, then carefully look at your printer and try to find the lever for printhead positioning, it controls the printhead gap. You must adjust manually this gap in correspondence with the number of printed copies.

Dot matrix printer. very light print on last page of form

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Based on your description, the printer is working, it is not a form issue, the printer head is good, an adjustment might be needed and it works, there is no reason to replace the Lexmark 2381plus printer even if it is 7 years old (not unless you would want to).

To the faint printing on the last of the 3 pages:
  • the take-up spool/wheel drawing the ribbon is not working (most likely). The ribbon is not moving hence the printer head is not striking fresh ribbon area. Check the ribbon cartridge, it may be stuck or the driving spindle where the ribbon's take-up spool/wheel locks into. It may need a bit of cleaning and/or lubrication;
  • the printer head is slightly adjusted away from the paper. Normally, there is a mechanical lever/adjustment that sets how many paper & duplicates are fed. Adjust for 1 only.
Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.
