How to find mac address?

Ok here is the command for viewing MAC ADDRESS or you can say PHYSICAL ADDRESS

START---RUN----cmd--- here type 'ipconfig /all' (without the quotes). Did you notice there is a space in between ipconfig and /, so remember to do that.

Now it'll show you the list of all details.
Below is the Screenshot of the MAC address. The Physical Address and MAC address are the same, inside the yellow mark is MAC or Physical address.

How can I configure the Internet Access Policy under the Access Restrictions tab so that only certain workstations/users (connected to my network through the wired and wireless options) will have access to...

Hi Wilson,
You can block Internet access by specifying MAC addresses of PCs you want blocked. The MAC address is the physical address of the network card in the PC.
Please page 54 for instructions on setting up this policy.

To locate the mac address of a PC.

I need the mac number from my Aspire One. How do I get it? thanks

Open up a command line interface. Do so as shown here:

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/947-command-prompt.html

Once you've got it open type "ipconfig /all" this will list the IP configurations for all of the adapters in your computer. Find the adapter you want (wired or wireless) and then choose the physical address of the adapter your are looking for. If you are using Windows 7 you can also use the "getmac" command and this will list the addresses for you. There should be 12 characters in pairs of 2.

I hope this helps! If this did help you, please give a thumbs up!

Thank you for choosing FixYa!

I type 192.168.1.1 but it fails to access my router. It comes back and says webpage not found.

Hi,

This issue could be because of the following reasons:

1. Physical connectivity issues.
2. Router set up with another address.
3. Browser issue.

To isolate and fix this you need to ensure that we have connectivity.
Make sure you are using a kown good LAN cable and there are lights on the computer as well as the router.

You are trying the correct address which is the default for Linksys routers, you might want to try http://192.168.0.1 as well.

Please try to use another browser to access it.

In case this fails please press the reset button on the back of the router and hold it till the lights on the front blink to indicate that the router has been reset.

Once reset please try with the default IP address again.

If you require any further assistance, please comment and let me know, and I will be happy to assist you to further resolve your issue.

I will appreciate your feedback and positive rating for this solution.
Thank you.

What is mac address?

A Media Access Control address (MAC address) is a unique identifier assigned to network interfaces for communications on the physical network segment. Logically, MAC addresses are used in the Media Access Control protocol sub-layer of the OSI reference model.

MAC addresses are most often assigned by the manufacturer of a network interface card (NIC) and are stored in its hardware, the card's read-only memory, or some other firmware mechanism. If assigned by the manufacturer, a MAC address usually encodes the manufacturer's registered identification number. It may also be known as an Ethernet hardware address(EHA), hardware address, adapter address, or physical address.

Hope this information will help you.

Neighbors can use our connection to log on to laptop

Consult your users manual for setting up either MAC Address Filtering, which will allow you to enter the physical addresses of your devices (unique like a fingerprint.)

AND/OR

Enabling Wireless Encryption (Wireless Security), which would require you to enter a pass code or pass phrase in order to access your networks assets.

Please let us know if you need any further assistance. If this information was helpful, please take a moment to rate the solution. Thank you.

Layer3

Which model are you talking about ? I have included both

Here is the OSI model
Layer 1 = physical medium & signal on the wire (physical)
Layer 2 = MAC Address and SNAP (ATM) (data link)
Layer 3 = IP Addressing V4 V6 (network)
Layer 4 = TCP/UDP (RTP, RTSP) (transport)
Layer 5 = Duplexing Half or full (Session)
Layer 6 = HTTP, FTP, SNMP (presentation)
Layer 7 = Web browser, FTP Client, (application)

TCP Model:
Layer 1 = physical medium & signal on the wire (physical) (Hub and reapeter)

Layer 2 = MAC Address and SNAP (ATM) (data) (Switches and bridges)

Layer 3 = IP Addressing V4 V6,
Layer 4 = TCP/UDP (RTP, RTSP) (Internetwork) (Firewall, IPSEC) Routers

(This function is split between 4&5) Duplexing Half or full

Layer 5 = , HTTP, FTP, SNMP, Web browser, FTP Client, (application) (programs)

I hope this helps,

Thank you,
