Needle does not move up and down manually or when peddle is engaged. You hear motor run, but needle doesn't react.

sounds if you have cotton or fabric jammed around shuttle Hook casing or you have knocked the hook timing so far out that the needle is jamming against the hook assembly case. it sounds as if the machine needs to go in to have a complete check out. Have a look at some other answers I have given on sewing machines and how to retime them if you wish to give it a try to save yourself money and time.

good luck

If the needle was on the down position when you switched stiches, this could have caused the problem. Raise the needle completely, power the machine off for 30 seconds, then power back on... Did that fix it?

The needle will not move up and down while pressing the peddle, and the knob feels tight when i turn it to either put the needle up or down.

This sounds like it needs lubrication, especially on the top shaft bearing. These machines are a pain to lubricate properly, as it takes longer to remove the plastic outer casings, than it does to fix the problem.
