Http url prefix is added to my ip address in the address bar

Yesterday I could enter 192.168.1.254 in the address bar to access my router. Today the http:// prefix is added and I can not remove it. I've tried deleting all history, reset IE V8, remove http prefix in registry.

You can still access your router at http://(your router's ip). if you have problems in accessing due to the affixed http, please modify your IE connection settings and set it to "Automatically Detect Settings" in Connections Tab

Regards!

Using http to view your routers settings should not be a problem. You mention this is there, in the address window, but you do not mention that you cannot access your router.

If the answer is no, can you recheck your Gateway IP address, to be sure it's still set to 192.168.1.254? Actually, using the last set of numbers as 254 is a bit odd for a router. It's usually a 1.

Are you otherwise able to use your router? Can you surf the Internet?

good luck

I have the wireless -G music bridge (model WMB54G) - I had forgotten the password so I reset it - Now, my computer will not recognize it - any suggestions?

The Linksys Wireless-G Music Bridge (WMB54G) has a web-based setup page that allows the user to customize settings and set up advanced properties.
Step 1:
Open a web browser.

Step 2:
Go to the Address bar and enter your router's IP Address, then press [Enter].

NOTE: The default IP Address of a WMB54G is 192.168.1.210.

NOTE: If the IP address of the WMB54G has been changed, type the WMB54G's new IP address in the Address bar instead.

The WMB54G's IP address can be changed by:

    • Running the WMB54G's setup CD.

    • Changing it on the WMB54G's web-based setup page.

If you forgot the WMB54G's IP address you can:

  • Press the Reset button underneath the antenna for 30 seconds.

NOTE: This procedure will reset the WMB54G to factory defaults. Any settings on the Music Bridge will be erased. The Music Bridge's IP address will be 192.168.1.210and the password will be "admin" after resetting.

Step 3:
A new window will prompt for a User name and Password. Leave the User name field blank, type "admin" in the Password field, then click OK.

NOTE: If the password of the WMB54G has been changed, type the Music Bridge's new password in the Password field instead.

Can not get 192.168.1.1 to download only get web page seach

Make certain you are trying the 192.168.1.1 in the address bar of your browser and not your search bar. Also, try 192.168.0.1- DLink can use that instead of .1.1 for its default IP address.

I dont know how new it can be if its b/g, have you tried to reset the router and then log in.
Your correct with the 192.168.2.1, and it sounds like you know what you are talking about so if you have reset the router, and tried different browsers, loooks like a problem with this router.
Dont know if this is of any help

I am having url 192.168.1.1 and other combos fail for Linksys wrt54gs. I am online with the Linksys but want to access and have a secure line rather than unsecured line. It is connected to our desktop...

To access the router setup, open an IE browser, on the address line: http://192.168.1.1 then press enter, you should be prompted for a username and password, leave the username blank, password is: admin, this should give you access to the router.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linksys_WRT54G_series#Default_settings
if for some reason that doesn't work, start, run, cmd, enter, this will open a command window and type the command IPCONFIG /ALL look up the default Gateway IP address and see if it is different. If the gateway is a different IP address, try that IP address

No access to access controls.

that means that the routers ip address has changed as the default address is the same as the web address you posted. Try typing in the address 172.16.0.1 without any www. or anything. a clue as to the router address will be found out by looking at your own pcs ip address in the properties of your network card and selecting the support tab, if your pcs ip address is 172.168.0.3 for example you know your routers address will be more than likely the same first seven numbers, then the last one will probably be '1'

How do I setup filters on my wireless router?

IP Filters IP filters block access to ports or a series of ports from an IP address on the LAN. For example, if you did not want the computer with IP address 192.168.0.100 to access the Internet, then you would block that IP address from accessing port 80. Step 1 Open a web browser and type the IP address of the wireless router in the address bar (default is 192.168.0.1). Press Enter. Step 2 The default username is admin (all lower case) and the default password is blank (nothing). Click OK. Step 3 Click the Advanced tab and then click Filters to the left. Step 4 Select IP Filters using the radio buttons. Step 5 Select the Enabled radio button. Step 6 In the first field next to IP enter the IP address you want to block access from. If you want this to apply to a range of IP addresses, then enter the ending IP address in the second field. Step 7 In the first field next to Port enter the port you want to block. To block a range of ports, enter the ending port number in the second field. Then select the protocol type (TCP, UDP, or Both) using the drop-down list next to Protocol Type. Step 8 Next to schedule select Always using the radio buttons to continuously enable this filter, or select the From radio button to set a schedule using the time and day drop-down boxes below. Step 9 Click Apply and then click Continue to save the new settings. URL Blocking URL Blocking is used to block web sites that contain certain keywords.
