Howdo I change the password on my Arris router?

The default user name is "admin". The default password is "password", in lower case letters

Go to wireless tab at top of screen and look up WPA Key or WEP key and make a note of what it is on 2.4 GHz frequencies as I think this will be dual band with 5 GHz as well but Ipad will run on 2.4 GHz only as it will be 802.11n as opposed to 802.11AC

Note if you changed the user name password or user name you will have to reset the router back to factory defaults but be aware everything defaults so ISP cable settings reset (would need ISP to tell you what they are and help set them back up)
(wireless settings change so you need ethernet cable directly into router to set up wireless)
Hopefully your still set up on the router on the default user name and password !

You'll need to go in the router's settings and change the Administrator password.

don't need, just go to http://192.168.2.1

and if you can't access with the default password (think is admin :)

press the reset button of the cable modem just for router only, in case you have also telephony integrated.

go again to the address above and configure your password and router to whatever you like

The default username and password for most routers I have seen is admin and admin provided you have not changed it. All are lowercase letters.Also I suggest you use the WPA or WPA2+ encryption if its available. The WEP is easy to crack wirelessly and I had a gala time cracking my neighbor's router in less than 3 hours!

To make your wireless router secure you need to use your browser and type in the router's IP configuration address.
Then you need to change the default Admin password,
change SSID and turn off SSID broadcast,
setup the encryption (use WAP or WAP2 if your wireless card supports WAP) if not use WEP 128 bit encryption
and for added protection use MAC address filtering.
