Question about Sharp Microwave Ovens

1 Answer

My Sharp R-240D microwave is flashing 88:88 on the clock. None of the buttons work. How do I get the touch panel to work?

It's not a US model. It's made for NZ & AU. I took the motherboard out & cleaned it with electrical contact cleaner. After putting it back together it still won't work. The light inside works when the door is open. But none of the buttons are responding.

I'm not finding that as a valid US model.

I would suggest checking the label again.

Feel free to contact me directly for more help.

I live in New Zealand. It has a NZ wall power plug. It's not a US model. I brought it secondhand. It's an older model.

Unplug the oven and remove the cover. Remove the screws that hold the control panel unit in place, and turn the control panel so you can get at the flat cable that goes from the control panel to the controller printed circuit board (PCB). Look closely at the connector for this cable on the PCB. On most microwave ovens, the connector is a plastic box with a collar that goes around the rim of the box. If you pull this collar up a couple of millimeters (slide it up the cable away from the circuit board), this unlocks the cable so it will slide easily out of the connector. Some models have no collar of locking bar; these are friction fit, and usually have some reinforcing material on the cable right at the connector. Pull evenly, not one end at a time, and don't get too rough with it. Now that you have the contacts on the end of the cable exposed, gently scrub them clean with a clean, soft white pencil eraser. If there is any dust buildup on the connector, blow it off. Reassemble the cable (make sure it is all the way down in the connector socket, then put the controller back in place with enough screws to test operation. If you get more buttons working, but not all of them, repeat the cleaning. If necessary, spray a small amount of electrical contact cleaner in the connector with the cable removed, then wipe the contacts with a non-glossy business card.

CAUTION: there are high voltages in the oven when it is plugged in. Don't stick your hands or tools inside the space normally hidden by the cover when power is applied!

Somebody exploded an egg in Kitchenaid Microwave combo oven, and circuitboard went bad. Power but no heat. Coincidence?

The circuit board is in a separate section so the motherboard can't come into contact with the exploded egg. Was any liquid cleaning solution sprayed inside to clean up the mess? There might be some crevices where cleaning solution spray could work its way into the circuit board section since it's very close by. Always use a damp cloth instead of saturating the oven with cleaner.

I just went thru the entire decalcifying process and got to the final step, emptied the drip tray and coffee grounds bin, put the tray back into place, but can't get the display off of "empty...

You should Clean and dry the metal contacts on the back of the drip tray, ensuring that the gap between the contacts is clean and dry (if present, contacts not on all JURA models) Make sure that the plastic in between the contacts is clean

I want to defrost my GE chest freezer but i do not know where the drain is

Since you did not include a model number this is my best guesses:
http://manuals.appliancesonline.com.au/kcm2100wc/kcm2100wc.pdf (Page 1 w/pic)

and
http://www.appliancesdirect.com/InstallationPdf/49-60442.pdf (page 7 no pictures)

For Complete Defrosting

Turn the temperature control to the

OFF position and unplug the freezer.

Remove all food and place it in

corrugated boxes, insulated bags,

picnic coolers, etc. Use towels and

newspapers for insulation as needed.

With the door/lid open, use pans of

hot water to speed loosening of frost.

Remove large pieces before they melt.

Chest models have a defrost water drain

at the front.

NOTE: Water may drip from the back flange of

the lid cover during defrosting. This is normal.

Ice builds up in the lid insulation when the lid is

open for adding or removing food, and melts

during the defrosting operation.

Sponge excess water from the bottom

of the freezer as it collects to prevent

overflowing.

After defrosting, clean the inside of the

freezer (see Care and Cleaning).

Replace the drain plug inside the

cabinet and the cap on the defrost

drain. Fold over and dry the gasket

on the hinge side of the lid.

Plug in the freezer. Return the

temperature control to its previous

position and return food to the freezer.

Hopefully with this information you can find the drain. If not go to www.ge.com and click on service and support to download your manual. (Model number required)
or contact them here:

I have a Shapr Microwave Convection model R-8880(W) T which is flashing after being stored for 3 months. It won't work, the timing light just keeps flashing on andoff 88-888. Does it have a reset...

Try pushing / stop reset first. The setting the time by pushing clock button .... punch in the time and push the clock button again. Just respond here if that does not work. 88-8888 is what you get after your first plug it in. Sometimes you will get PF if you unplug it and plug it back in. If that appears push stop / reset / clear. (Same button)
