Your inlet needle inside the carburetor is stuck open. Try tapping the side of the carburetor with the blunt end of a screwdriver. That may free it up. Gingerly it is made from pot metal. Just tap, tap. other than that the carb needs to be pulled and rebuilt.

Briggs and straten...875...190cc will not stay running,it`s surging the whole time and then just stops

It sounds like you may have a cracked float in the carburetor. It surges and when the float is saturated, it stops. If you don't feel comfortable putting in a rebuild kit, you may need to to take it to a small engine repair place.

Might be the carburetor or air filter dirty. Need right amount of air to mix with fuel at the right time.
To service these best to check this video out. Yours may not be the same exact model but gives an idea.

What causes a 17.5 Briggs and Stranton riding lawnmower not to start again after it has run awhile? It will start fine when first cranked.

Sounds like the float is sticking and possibly flooding. Pull your plug and see if there is gas between the electrodes (the insert and the bent part where the arc occurs). If it's wet, that's your problem and you need to have your carb rebuilt (quick and inexpensive fix)

Could be 2 things: a restriction in your fuel line/coming out of the tank, or 2: a dirty carburetor needing to be removed, cleaned and possibly rebuilt and reinstalled. Hope it's one of those.Start with pulling the fuel line loose from the carburetor. If you have fuel flowing freely, plug the hose with a golf tee and move onto removing the carburetor. Carb kits are cheap and easy to install. It's best to rebuild while you have it off to avoid similar problems later.

Briggs & Stratton 4 cycle Lawnmower engine no fuel from carberator. Fuel is being supplied to carberator but only runs when starting fluid is used. Gas is new. What's clogged?

the float may be gummed up. or the needle is plugged up.
you need to clean the carburetor, old gas left in the carburetor turns
into shellac and gums up in side. you need to take it apart and clean it.

My 5.5hp OHV Briggs engine is leaking gas right out of the carbuerator when it is running and the engine is flooding out with no power. What's wrong?

The needle and seat need to be replaced. The part number for most single cylinder carburetors is 398188 (briggs and stratton part number). Something has gotten stuck between the needle and the seat or the seat has either swelled or gotten so hard that it will not seat correctly. When you get the carburetor off you will need to take off the carburetor bowl. A 1/2 in socket or wrench will work ok. Then the float needs to come off. There is a pin that should slide out (may have to use some needle nose pliers to do so). Then the needle is attached to the float. The seat (rubber on most applications), is in a recess where the fuel comes out. You can remove this with an air hose.
CAUTION: When you use the air hose to remove the seat, unless you have covered it with a finger, the seat will shoot out and be lost. My suggestion is to cover the seat with a rag or something so that it does not become a projectile.
Then once it is removed you can install the new seat with a small blunt punch. (No hammering is needed.) Then you can install the new needle (included in the kit) and assemble the carburetor and re install it. That should fix that problem.

Carburetor flooding

Not familiar with this model, but this is exactly how the smaller ones behave when the carburetor diaphragm is shot. Larger engines usually have a float system with needle and seat in which case the problem is either a leaking needle/seat assembly or saturated float.

Fuel starvation on 4.5hp Briggs and Stratton lawnmower engine. Replaced carb, it ran for one day, stopping and starting as I needed. Thought I had it made. Next day, wouldn't start. It would run until it...

When you replaced the carburetor on the briggs lawnmower did you also check the tank? Most times if you replace the carburetor and don't clean the tank and if you have any dirt remaining in the tank, then you only washed your feet but kept your socks on while you did it. You should have cleaned that tank extremely well because the tank body is also 1/2 the carburetor. You may have to disassemble the whole thing for a cleaning now. Good luck.
Good luck.
