Please expand on your question. What are the symptoms? What are the settings you are using?

If you mean the top thread is not picking up the bobbin thread, then be sure to install a brand new needle. If that doesn't work, most likely your machine has been knocked out of time. Take it for service.

How do you make the 1080 machine do straight stitch?

Set the stitch width to zero, the stitch length should be set at #2 or there-abouts. No decorative stitches should be selected. The feed dogs need to be in the up position.

Can you use twin needles on bernina 1080

I have a Bernina 930 Record that will take twin (even triple) needles, so I don't know why your 1080 wouldn't. Just be sure your machine does not have the straight stitch plate on it, that your presser foot can accommodate zig-zag stitch, and that you carefully adjust any zig-zag stitch width so the needles do not hit the presser foot or stitch plate. I'd suggest installing the double needle and then carefully hand rotate the handwheel to see if the needles will hit anything. If you can make a full rotation of the handwheel without anything hitting, then slowly try it with the motor engaged.

Resolve the problem of not being able to Zig Zag on the Bernia 830. Ever4ything else works fine.

If you take the top off you will see the lever that connects with each cam, you can undo the screws on the cam and move it to make sure the lever is completely on the cam you want, if you have a nylon cam it may have splkit.

Stitch width knob

What's the model? Do you have the stitch selector set on straight stitch, or on a stitch with a width component, like a blind hem stitch?
Some machines consider straight stitch to be a zigzag stitch of width=0, while others have separate settings for a straight stitch and a zigzag (or other) stitch.

Bernia 730 record stitch lenght

You should have a dial that adjusts the stitch up or down to make it more narrow or lengthen the stitch. Try it on scrap fabric first until you find the stitch you wish. It will stay in that position until you want to change it.

Why straight stitch will not work but zigzag and herringbone stitches work on my machine.

it sounds like the machine needs to be checked at a sewing
machine shop to see what's wrong with the cam's or gear
that makes the stitches

Bernia 1005 I can get it to got thew the machine the fabric stays still

Maybe you have the feeddogs down or the stitch length on zero. Or the pressure on the foot needs to be stepped up (but I'm not sure you can do that on that machine).

Shark 384 - how can i get a straight stitch?

with the Shark Euro-Pro X machine, you need to bring the stitch width to zero it's the nob on top of the machine the manual states not to use it wider then 3 with the double needle cause it can break the needle. but either stitch selection "A" or "S" will give straight stitching with width at zero.
