One method is coat it with lard and bake it in an oven at 400 degrees for an hour. After each use while it is still hot, swab it with a wet kitchen towel (paper or cloth) to remove residue then pour in roughly a half-teaspoon of olive oil and use a paper towel to swab it over all interior surface. Return the pan to the oven if there is still residual heat and let it reheat or, as an alternative, "prime" the pan in the oven for a few minutes before use.

Hi I work in a foundry and im looking for info on how to season a freshly cast, cast iron skillet prior to sale. Thanks

Iron doesn't dry out like wood. If you want it rusty or rustic, wash with water and leave to dry.

I had a skillet pan made of cast iron and when I saw it now, it has rusted. Why does it rust?

Any kind of iron implement is at risk of rusting over time, especially if it is exposed to moisture. In the case of cast iron cookware it is possible it was not seasoned properly when it was new, was stored in a damp area, soaked in water, or it was washed with soap which is not recommended since it will remove the oil coating protecting the skillet. The good news is rust can be cleaned off. After cleaning the rust though, the pan should be seasoned to prevent this from happening again.

How do I season my stainless steel electric skillet?

Seasoning a pan or skillet is only done on cast iron because the metal has pockets in the surface that cause food to stick. Stainless steel does not have those pockets.

Can I use Cast Iron Pots and Skillets on my new Frigidaire Gallery Stove Top?

Hello friend, thanks for your post!
It is not recommended to use any cast iron pots or skillets on a Frigidaire smooth top. In your manual it provides the best type of cookware material and cast iron is a poor heat conductor. Due to the weight of the cast iron it can cause scratches or damage the cooktop. I hope this information has been helpful. -Matt

How do you clean a wok without ruining it?

After use;

1. Rinse your wok in warm soapy water and remove any food from the inside surface.

2. If you need to clean the wok more thoroughly you can do it in hot water but don't use any soap or chemicals.

3. Dry the wok with a towel

4. A properly seasoned wok won't give off any black smudges. If yours does, it may still be dirty or just need to be seasoned again.

How should I store my cast iron skillet?

You should store it without the lid. If you leave the lid on then it is more likelt to rust. Some people even put a paper towel inside to protect against moisture. I leave a paper towel in all my pans.

I seasoned my new stainless steel skillet in the oven now I have built up oil stuck to the sides inside the skillet. How can I remove this without damaging the stainless steel finish? HELP!

You only need to season a cast iron skillet, not stainless steel. Soak it in hot soapy water and use something like a mister clean pad to clean it.

Teflon coated? Wash with warm water and mild soap, rinse and dry. That all you'll need to do.
