Craftsman 8-1/4 in compound miter saw TROUBLE

I have owned my Craftsman 8-1/4 IN compound miter saw for a LONG time-- over 20 years. Today , while sawing a compound angle with a short piece of wood, the saw jammed. Upon triggering again-- nothing-- no response. I opened the motor brushes portal and -- all the graphite was gone, only the base plates and springs were left! I installed the brushes a short time ago- so they must have somehow snapped off when the saw jammed today. My question-- are there big chunks of graphite inside the motor housing waiting to create havoc-- or-- did they already get disintegrated I hope!? Thanks very much for helping--- Rick

SOURCE: 20" poulan chain saw cuts at angle

Buy an oregon green chain for the saw, much better chain, more teeth, heavier duty, outcut the original chains by far,and can be sharpened many times over.Keep the chain sharp and she should cut straight.Dont over tighten the chain, I tighten mine til I can just lift the bottom of the chain almost completely out of the bar groove.

Hello stella....... There is a locking mechanism on the miter saw to lock it on whatever setting you require. loosen that locking mechanism and the saw should move for you. Here is a schematic of the parts so you can see exactly which parts are involved

More $$ generally = better quality, but not always. Many Craftsman tools today are very lightly built. Go to Home Depot and get a Ryobi or Ridgid saw, or Lowe's has Kobalt miter saws. All are at least as well made as Craftsman, and Ridgid comes with a lifetime warranty!

Dewalt 12 inch compound sliding miter saw

This saw has locking indexing to set bevels for 52 degree crown molding the other common crown angle is 45 degrees, the bevel setting needs to be other than where the locking indexs are for the 52 degree crown. Problem is that the bevel lock does not securely hold at the bevel angle required. Is their an adjustment to get this lock to hold tighter.
