Does it work on an external mouse?

If yes, its a bad connection inside laptop - ribbon connector from touchpad to motherboard.

If no, the left click is not set to any function in laptop Control Panel. Try to reset it.

SOURCE: Disable Touchpad Clicking

Hiya, At the bottom right of the screen, by the clock, you should see an icon for the touchpad.....

Hint : Hover the mouse over the icons and wait for the "Pop-Up" Display to see what they do if your not sure.

When you find the one for the touchpad, simply right click it and scroll down to the option that says "Tap To Click" and left click it so that there is NO TICK next to it..........

........ This will DISABLE all tap click options and leave the touchpad as a touchpad and the buttons as buttons...........

Hope This Helps, Kind Regards,

Me :D

SOURCE: Can move the mouse but not clikc with the touchpad

Hi,

if you installed an external mouse, it would over-ride the touchpad.
try removing the external mouse, and tap the touchpad twice as if you were double clicking it.
also you could try re-installing the touchpad device driver, usually synoptics or similar.

SOURCE: Touchpad not funjctioning on Toshiba Satellite L40/45 laptop

You might have inadvertedly disabled the touchpad.

1. Press Fn + F9 to enable the touchpad.
This key combination acts as a switch, enabling or disabling the touchpad: press once to enable (if it is disabled), then press again to disable.

2. If the touchpad still doesn't respond, check the settings in the mouse control utility.
Click on the touchpad icon on the right side of the task bar if you see one or click Start button/Settings/Control Panel, select the Mouse icon and Press Enter.
Change the settings if necessary.

Touchpad doesn't work

Step 1:
The touchpad of any laptop is always subject to heavy use.
Most touchpads are designed for their durability to sustain the daily wear and tear for the lifespan of the laptop.
However, there may be instances or accidents that cause the touchpads to malfunction or stop working entirely.
There are ways to troubleshoot such problems and there are also remedies to salvage the touchpad's functionality without heavy repair or replacement cost.

Determine What's Wrong
A laptop's touchpad basically provides the functionality of a mouse for a desktop PC, typically with two buttons located just below it acting as the left and right click buttons on a desktop computer. A touchpad may be damaged by excessive use or foreign substances such as water, dirt or food items. Hit the "Windows" button on the keyboard and then use the right-left keys (or hit 'C') to open "Control Panel." From there, again use the right-left keys to get to "Mouse" and then hit "Return." Use the right-left keys to toggle between the tabs and open each to investigate whether any boxes had been improperly clicked by accident that cause the touchpad to become unresponsive. But if any of these steps fail to remedy the problem, then the touchpad may need to be repaired or replaced. b> Repairing/Replacing Touchpad b> A touchpad assembly cost $100 or more and that's not including replacement installation. Hiring a specialist to replace a damaged touchpad, including parts and labor, may easily cost $200. Unless the laptop in question is worth well over $1,000 and the touchpad is deemed a necessity, such repairs are rarely worth the cost. Attempting to replace the touchpad without certain expertise in laptop assembly may be dangerous and/or destructive. Also, getting a replacement part that's not compatible with the laptop may have catastrophic results, including irreversible damage to the laptop. Long-Term and Better Solution b> The simplest, and best, solution to a malfunctioning touchpad is to replace its functionalities with an external mouse. Most PCs sold after 2000 come with USB ports and getting a USB mouse either a corded or a cordless one--will remedy the problem. A cordless USB mouse may be bought for as little as $10 and some of the better-designed ones allow the user to tuck the USB stick inside the mouse's belly when not in use. Even when a touchpad is working properly, a laptop user should be advised to plug in a mouse anyway whenever possible as touchpads are notoriously difficult to use and also leaves the user in an ergonomically incorrect position.

The left click button on my samsung r510 is not working, can you help me please?

Use "tapping" to do the left click if the button isn't working. You can click, double click and drag things around using just the touch panel.
Position the cursor on the icon you want to select and do a quick "tap" on the touch panel, the icon will become selected, equivalent to one click. To double click, double tap. To drag things around, do a tap and quickly tap again without lifting your finger and move.
It takes a little practice but you'll get used to it. Also the touchpad software has some settings that will let to configure the sensitivity and time between taps among other things to adjust the movement to your preferences.

I want to deactivate my touch pad on my dell inspiron 1525 laptop. Please advise how

If you do not see a Touchpad icon in your systray(lower right), go to:

Start/Control Panel/System

On the left choose "Device Manager".

Select "Mice and other pointing devices" and highlight "Dell Touchpad"

Either right click and "Uninstall" or click the uninstall icon at the top.

Restart your machine and it will automatically update the driver from Dell which will put the Touchpad icon back in the system tray.

Click on this icon and go to "Device Select"

Check the "Disable Touchpad/Pointing stick when external USB mouse id present.

How to clean inspiron 1525 touch pad

Hi there.
The touchpad itself is easy to clean but if the liquid has got into the left and right click keys you may have a problem, a warm soapy partially dry cloth will take the residue off the touchpad but the soda may have got to the circuit board causing it to be slow to react.
To clean the left and right keys and under the touchpad you have to take the laptop apart, remove the keyboard and the front cover and clean under that where you can get under the left/right click keys and the ribbon cable of the touchpad.
This type of job is not for the novice and i would advise having a technician do it whether it's in or out off warranty, preferably Dell themselves.
Other than that the best option would be to buy a wireless or wired mini mouse which are much easier to use than the touchpad itself.

Please post back with the results and more help if needed, good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!
