Set the machine to the widest stitch width available and measure the stitch. A maximum stitch width of 5mm will tell you that you need the narrower walking foot.

Fabric feeds crooked when sewing

Would suggest taking your machine for service. Could be the feed dogs need adjustment or realignment. Also, make sure you are using the correct presser foot for your machine. With all the new machines that have 7mm and 9mm presser feet (most older machines have 4mm or 5mm), using the incorrect width presser foot may cause the fabric to skew.

I have a brother ls14 machine and i bought a WALKING FOOT FOR IT BUT WHEN attached the needle screw catches on it when trying to sew.

Be sure the "fork" is around the needle clamp screw. If that is not possible, then you possibly have the wrong foot for your machine.

Are the Feed Dogs on a model CX205LA Brother Sewing Machine 5mm or 7mm, or other? I need to know so I can purchase the correct "narrow hem foot". Thank you.

This indicates that the measurement of the opening in the needle plate will tell you which foot to buy. If the opening measures 6mm, then it is a 5mm machine. Or, you can stitch the largest zig-zag stitch and measure the width of the stitch.

Walking feet attach much the same way on most machines. They can be boogers the first couple of times. It helps to tilt the foot and guide it toward the needlebar from the side in order to get the fork (if your foot has a fork--some just have a bar that sets on top of the needleclamp screw) around the needleclamp screw. In cases of extreme frustration, I've removed the needleclamp screw and then reattached it once the foot is in place.

Just use patience. If frustrated, walk away. Whatever, do not force or bend the foot in order to install.

Brother cs6000i thread tension issue

Logically, the top thread should not be affected by a walking foot as the thread operates independently of the presser foot.

Suggest removing the top thread totally from the machine. ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot and rethread from the beginning. Verify the thread path is correct.

Check that your walking foot is installed correctly--the fork-shaped piece needs to encircle the needle clamp screw.

If you continue to experience problems with the walking foot but none of the other feet, recommend contacting a Brother technician.

Is it a low shank machine and whether all low shank feet will fit the machine?

Not all low shank fit low shank. the max. stitch width usually 5mm - 7mm needle opening also makes a diff. Best to order feet for your particular mode. Check out www.sewingpartsonline.com it's a great site and easy to navigate
