Question about Westinghouse L2046NV Monitor

CPU On Monitor Dead

I purchased this monitor less than a year ago and in June 16 2009, it was dead and nothing I do gets the screen to work. I have a sinking feeling this is a common with this monitor. I've had computers in my home for over 15 years and I can still use my old monitors, I was expecting a little more out of my flat screen.

Whenever I plug it into my new laptop my laptop goes black and I cant get the display back until I reboot.

I purchased the laptop as soon as the monitor died, assuming the problem was the CPU. Now, I know otherwise. I have attempted to try the various methods of linking the laptop to the monitior with no response. I will call BestBuy tomorrow, as it is where I purchased this stupid monitor and see if I can have it repaired.

The monitor, since it is under warranty is best to be examined by an authorized personnel or replaced. As for your laptop, I dont suppose it has a problem. Only that it should have been configured to send display to the external source once plugged.
There are 3 options

  • Native + External
  • Native alone
  • External alone
Your laptop is configured for the 3rd option. You can change this by getting into display properties and under your graphics card configuration. Please do comment if you need further assistance

I dont understand what you mean by 'Various methods'. Anyway the monitor needs a check up.

Hp P6000 fans stop after 15 seconds. Hard drive light stays on. nothing on monitor

dead PC, DESKTOP PC ,as old as 2009.
the fans tells you the PSU shut off, for cause.
fans, so you saw all fans turn off or just 1. or 2 of 3.
my pc has 4 fans many have 3;
CPU fan stops ,cpu overheats , PC goes slow or dead. clean the lint off it.
GPU fan , video goes dead. if it overheats.
PSU fan is inside the PSU if it goes bad, PSU is bad.
no monitor stated, is it CRT or LCD is it 15 years old.
if the monitor is 2002 or newer the OSD screen works
even with PC turned off, press the select button see that OSD screen ? telling you the monitor is not dead in 1second flat;
i caN NOT understand why the HDD lamp glows,
if the PSU shuts off , most LEDs go dead, on my PC
the standby LED on the MOBO glows, unless you pull the PSU power cord.
your HP PC came with 9 different mobo, during its production run.
at least. so answers come harder from that reason.

here are some simple tests.
test 1
power on, hear fans run
does the DVD drive (or cd) button eject work,.?
do all fans not just 1 or 2 worK? look for all fans clean the lent out
or things will overheat,
PSU can be bench tested or in the PC case.
using a jumper wire, even the HP service manual covers that.

power on the PC (after keeping monitor on for 5 full minutes)
test 2
the Screen must say, "hit ESC key to enter HP setup" BIOS.
press the ESC key on the monitor
if no text shows up that is a dead PC< "text above missing{"
if the PC told you to hit another key do so.
The ESC key , activates the BIOS brain. this cause
all those pages to work as seen in your service manual;.
if BIOS is dead that is a bad PSU (monitor ok)
or CPU is overheated.
bad ram, take all sticks out and test 1 by 1, ask how. !
The PSU will shut down on up to 12 or more faults
but never shuts down the standby power bus. unless AC line pulled.
IF the PSU has fan as most do this is the first place I look.

All support is finished for XP years ago. The system is 13 years old and well past it expected life. Average is 8 to 10 years on a shop bought unit like Gateway, 12 years on a custom build.

I am thinking you probably have a dry joint on the board behind the switch as holding the switch makes the monitor work.

My advice though is a new computer running Windows 10, technology moves on in hardware and software.

Actually it boots, just that you don't see it. Try using another monitor - even a tv will do: disconnect the present monitor, connect the new one and reboot. If you get an image then the monitor is dead, replace it. If you don't then the onboard video card id dead, get a new one and try again. If even now it.s dead then you need a new motherboard.

anything can be repaired if you have the money and are willing to spend it. However it would be better to get a quote and weigh up the pros and cons of replacing it cheaper than the repair A new monitor wilol also have 3 years warranty ( Samsung)

Boot up failure

what DTC computer, what OS? XP home still?
XP is 3 years dead now, MS killed it and is ZERO support.
a 513c is like (relic now). with tiny 40gb PATA (relic) drive.
no memory and Celery processor (joking)

the fan is dead, if dead the CPU shuts down from overheating
in seconds.. on all CPU used, then to now and before.
you say that when you wiggled that connect.
proving THAT which you touched is bad.

good luck keeping and old DT with floppy drive, still working
goodwill has train cars full of these, nobody wants, so they send them to the third world countries (a gift of pure H3LL)

In fact if you went there you can find a way newer better computer on there, or on fleabay for far less and then up grade to WINDOW 7
and OS with a future, or LINUX.

dead fan it is.
