It may be the way the blade was made to attach to the spindle. You will have to clean away debris with a wire brush when you remove the blade to see for sure.

If your mower uses a star hole on the blade, then you must replace blade with a star hole, you can raise the mower up and see the star that the blade attaches to.

Remove mower spindle star is stripped blade moves

If star is actually stripped, you will have to replace the whole spindle assembly and blade. I would not change just the shaft if I was you as its almost as expensive as the whole assembly.

How do i change blade

Under the mower, the blade is held by a single nut.Unplug the spark plug.Lift the mower. You will need to hold the blade.I use a large screw driver to keep the blade from turning as you remove the nut.Do NOT but a blade before you get the old one off. Some blades use a star shaped hole others use a round one.You need to know which you need,as one will not fit on the other.Once the nut is off the blade will come off too. Then just put the new blade on and the nut.

Taking off the mower blades on a husqvarna z4824

Sometimes the blade bolts are tight from the factory.Try and lift the front of the mower to get under the deck if you don't want to take the deck off. If you don't have an impact gun use a small piece of 2x4to wedge between the blade and the edge of the mower housing to stop the blade from turning while you use a 5/8 socket on a 1/2 inch breaker bar or large ratchet, be careful you don't slip and cut yourself on the blades, wear gloves and when reinstalling blades be sure to align the star hole in blade with the star on the blade mandrel

A row of uncut grass left between blaces when mowing

THE answer that FINALLY worked for me. Torque the bolt that holds on the blade to the recommended torque specified in your owners manual (for my Exmark this torque is 120 ft-lbs). When I first used the torque wrench, i was quite surprised by the amount of addional force I needed to apply to reach 120 ft-lbs Exmark blades have a round blade hole with a washer and therefore, relies only on friction provided by torquing bolt to the proper torque to prevent slippage so that the blade rotates at the same speed as the spindle. When slippage between the blade and spindle occurs, blade tip speed slows leaving uncut grass.
Note: this solution will NOT work for mowers with a blade and spindle design which uses a positive means (e.g., a star shaped hole on the blade) that assures the blade rotates at the same speed as the spindle with no slippage.
