Carb. float must be stuck open. First if you have no fuel in the tank it must all be in the crankcase.Drain the oil and refill and also check the carb as the float has to be sticking open. Hope this will help you. Donnyb60

Your mower doesn't have enough power to handle very thick grass at high speed. You need to go slower across the lawn. That's easy to do if this is a push mower (just don't walk so fast) or if it's a self-propelled model with a speed control. But if it's a single-speed model you'll have to mow the lawn in fits and starts: squeeze the lever to move it forward; release it when you hear it bogging down; wait for the motor to reach full speed; squeeze the lever to move it forward again; repeat. Also, is the grass very high? If so, try setting the cutting height higher on the first pass, then lower it for a second pass. Finally, make sure the blade is sharp.

Personal Safety

Be sure to take the right safety precautions before you mow.
  • Never attempt to lift or repair mower with engine running.
  • When mowing with a walk-behind mower, wear heavy-duty shoes with non-slip soles and long pants to protect your legs.
  • Always wear eye protection when operating a mower.
  • Don't mow a wet lawn or late in the day when the light is dim.
  • Never let the starter robe snap back when starting mower.
  • Always mow up and down an incline with a traditional (i.e. unit with steering wheel) riding mower.
  • Always mow across an incline with a residential walk-behind mower.
  • Never adjust mower height, clean grass chute, or remove grass catcher with engine running.
  • Always stay clear of hot engine. Mufflers can reach up to 1,200 F (648 C

What's the hurry

What's this marketing ploy now days about cutting your lawn mowing time in half. I can understand that if u have a bunch of lawns to mow. Beings i only have one, I'm really not a big hurry. Take a look at your yard, do some thinking, and don't over spend. I only want to have to sharpen 2 blades not 3 or 4, and the less drive belts the better. U get your exercise with a walk behind, and get the grass cut too. Last time I was mower shopping, one salesman tried to sell me a 6,900.00 lawn mower. He said it would cut my mowing time in half. I said I'm not buying a mowing that's worth more than my pickup, and for 6,900.00 I could pay someone to mow my yard, and cut my mowing time down to zero.

Where does the throttle linkage spring attach on each end on a Yardworks 173cc 21" (Model# 11A-A2M7515)? I was mowing the lawn and pushing the mower close to a tree and a branch popped off the spring.

there is a little tab behind the air filter but facing forward. it is a funny shape. hook the spring end over this tab and you should be good to go

The engine stops after a half hour of mowing and will not start until it cools down, after which the cycle repeats itself

engine getting hot. Take rope pull off and clean off all the air fins on the cylinder block, use air how and do a good cleaning. If flywheel still have all the cooling fins it should help the problem or even solve it. Keep mower airways clean.

It sounds like the throttle cable has moved and in doing so lets the engine run at full revs, follow the cable down the the carb on the engine, the outer part of the cable will be clamped with a bracket and screw, you need the slacken the screw and push the outer cable forward the reduce the tention on it.

8hp Tecumseh engine how to adjust carb. when I put throttle on high it sputters drop the throttle back down its okay?

These symptoms indicate a rich mixture. Assuming the carb is the original (and therefore correct) one, and that it has an adjustable main jet, turn in the main jet adjustment screw on the bottom of the float bowl until the engine runs smooth.

If there is no adjustment on the float bowl, the carb will have to be removed and properly cleaned (ultrasonic cleaner recommended).
