hi there joedorava

is there input to pumps , are there any leaks in the system either oil / air

have you purged all the air from the hydro units and wheel motors

if air is entraineed in oil , you may get alot of noise from caviatation in the pumps and wheel motors also heat , and vibration and no movement until all the air is gone
top up oil to correct level

caviatation can be quite destructive on pumps etc

i assume you used the correct hydraulic fluid for the unit in question

have you checked changed hydraulic filters when changed hydraulic fluid ?

other than that cant give any more info

cheers pauly46

I cannot get the hydraulic system to stabilise in any one position. It keeps going up or down. This is a Massey Ferguson 35 Tractor not a mower

Usually if the hydraulics won't settle down either way, there is usually an adjustment that needs to be made. Not knowing the Make or model I would suggest looking through the owners manual or going to the Manufacturers website, there are even forums for tractors where these guys talk mowers tractors and what's the fix for them.

What kind of oil do I use in a Wheel Horse lawn tractor?

Your Onan engine will do excellent with Mobil One 0w40, Mobile One 5w30.

DO NOT use hydraulic oil in the transmission/transaxle, you will destroy it. Your tractor uses an Eaton 11 Hydrostatic transmission pump with the oil resevour being the cast iron transaxle. The WheelHorse transaxle is as rugged as they come. It uses a solid cast iron housing, case hardened intermediate gears and forged differential gears with an eight pinion differential.

Your transaxle requires 10w40 synthetic or conventional oil as well as a wix 51410 filter or the OEM wheelHorse filter. It should be changed every 100 hours with conventional oil or 250 hours with synthetic. DO NOT use hydraulic oil!
