It is located inside the motor housing. If you take it apart you will see a plastic like tube on the end of two wires going into the motor but not connecting to anything in the motor. They are usually white. That is the overload fuse or thermal protect fuse.

There isn't a thermal overload in this tool. If it is shutting off after somewhat hard use if could be the unit that controls the variable speed. What you can do is if you have a heat gun is plug the tool in and run it and apply the heat to the area of the handle where the it is being careful not to get too close. If it shuts off in a matter of minutes (usually shorter) the unit is bad and needs replaced. While you have it out look at the flag terminals at the brush tubes to make sure they are all the way pushed in. Let me know if I can help further. I hope this corrects the other comment.

Does 6509-31 sawzall have thermal overloads

No the 6509 does not have a thermal overload.
Start by checking the brushes & brush springs then test the switch & cord
It is possible you burnt the armature out but brushes, switch, or cord is more likely.

Milwauke 6527 Sawzall motor runs but something is wrong with the internal workings

This may be of no help but I believe that the reciprocating shaft is oblong on one side and more of a round hole on the other. It has to go in with the oblong down engaging one of the two wobble plates. It would be item 51. Also if you removed the wobble plates (37, 38) the shorter of the two (38) goes towards the rear. Also make sure the spacer (item 64) is in there and not messed up. Also check needle bearing item 4 and make sure it fits well on the gear shaft.

I have a sawzall 6527-27..it runs ok til i try to saw then the blade stops is there a safty clutch or a overload or ....

there is a gear protection type of system in this tool, to check I would first remove the shoe, gearcase insulator and then you will see a black cap at the bottom, check to see if the hex nut is loose. If it is I would try and tighten first, if not remove the gearcase 4 T20 torx screws usually, after removal hold the gear in a vise with a piece of rubber or similar protection on the gear and remove the hex nut to get to the gearing. You can download a schematic for this tool at Milwaukeetool.com. Let me know if you need more assistance. Check the hex nut first it could have loosened up not forcing the clutch to work properly.

could be a couple things, unplug tool and look at the pins on both the cord and the pin housing to make sure none pushed back, next remove handle half and remote electronic and look for a loose flag terminal at the brush holder, look for loose wires on the switch, (give a gentle tug) and remove the brushes and look for unusual wear patterns and possibly a burnt brush spring. Let me know if you need more help.

Missing the blade holder thingy for sawzall cat # 6527. Thanks, Mike

Mike, is this the quik lok blade assembly and if so the part number is 14-46-1011 and if not you would need to go to Milwaukeetool.com and type in your model number but you would also need to have the serial number handy for the different versions and parts for these tools. If you want to forward it to me I will come up with a part number for you.

It's probably tripping the thermal overload. You may try blowing it out good, might be full of saw dust if your cutting lots of wood.
