I'm not sure that this type of problem lends itself to a DIY fix. You might need a technician's expertise.

I have an older New Home Sewing machine XR-V11 electronic I have figured out the threading, bobbin, regular stitching and back stitching. It has alot of fancy stitching on it I can get the dial to move to...

It does not matter what pattern you select, if you have the stitch width dial on 0 or set on straight stitch then that is all it will do, to do patterns you need a close stitch length about 2 or if it is not numbered get the stitches close to suit yourself and the stitch width on the widest number.

Stitch selection

Next to the "selection wheel" there's a large-ish "hole" with a screw at the bottom, use your screw driver to wind up the screw and you'll be able to use the 9 to 15:)

Bobbin tangles on Brother xr 65

This was happening to me too, I reversed the bobbin feeds and it has not tangled since then. I was orignally feeding the bobbin from the left side and now i feed the thread from the right. It works great this way.

This happened to me too! Make sure your buttonholer isn't pulled down and locked in to where it's making the machine sew backward. That's what happened to me.
