The red security light is on permanently

You have to try resetting the system. First turn the breaker off for the condenser and wait about 20 seconds. After you turn it back on the system should reset. If the light stays on then you have an issue with the unit and i would get a professional to help.

if you want to open it up the screws are hidden, and you need to carefully prise off both the blue filling funnel at the rear, and the surround for the water spray nozzle at the front (knife or thin blade driver). Then you will meet a mix of pozi and anti-tamper screws needing a fork driver. The power supply for the blue LEDs is wrapped in a disconcerting gold coloured (mylar) pouch, and does not affect operation. The thermostat and the supply to the red neon light are all in the base plate with the element, the overheat fuse is in a "sausage" of sleeving P clipped to the baseplate. In our case this fuse had gone open circuit, and temporarily shorting this out restored normal operation until a spare could be located.

Iron shut off; will not go back on

There is a thermal fuse in the iron which blows when overheated. This fuse has to be replaced.

You can probably find one on-line at radioshack.com -- match the temperature rating of the old fuse. It'll have to be crimped in -- if you solder it, the heat will blow it.

Not heating

The thermal cutoff device blew and must be replaced. It acts like a fuse when the iron gets too hot. Thay are very
cheap and it would be well worth replacing. Hope this was helpful.

Red light flashing

Blinking red light is a standby phase, its not going to get hot like this. Shake it or just start ironing, the red light will go solid and the plate will heat up. The red light will go off when the plate is hot enough. It will go on again (solid) after a few minutes to keep the plate at the right temperature. If you leave it standing around for a while it will begin blinking again (standby).

These irons are known for malfunctioning though, mine stays in standby and the plate never heats up! Hopefully yours is fine.
