How to operate my new rocker recliner chair

Hello, Herbert -

I would think the chair would come with printed operating instructions. Perhaps the store where the chair was purchased can provide the printed instructions. I suggest you call that store. If the store cannot provide printed instructions, I recommend you contact the manufacturer of the chair for that information. Note: There is more than one manufacturer of that kind of chair.

Best wishes

How do you wake up a controller that is asleep?

The majority of controllers have a sleep timer. If the chair is on for a specific time period without use, it turns itself off, or, goes into a sleep mode. The chair is in a sleep mode when the operator tries the move forward and the chair does not move and lights on the controller blink rapidly.

To solve this, simply turn off chair, wait 10-30 seconds and turn chair back on. You should be able to operate as normal.

How do you know which office chair is the best?

While comfort is the obvious answer, there are a few otherfactors that go in to choosing an office chair since you will spend so muchtime in it. You want to consider howmuch weight it can without, if it has good customer reviews, if it swivels, ifyou can raise the seat and back, if it rolls or is stationary.

Pronto M51 was plugged in and was turned on to use. The chair never moved and their were sparks from the joystick. Now the chair will not work. What can i do to fix this problem?

Power chairs are not designed to operate while they are plugged into the charger, as it will drag the charger around or you may run over the cord, therefore most power chairs have an inhibit feature that prevents the power chair from moving while it is connected to the charger.
If you saw sparks from the joystick, something has shorted out the controller; moisture or condensation may have gotten into the controller or there may have been a manufacturing defect.
I do not think there is anything you can do at this point except to contact the manufacturer or the place where you purchased the power chair to arrange a service call and replacement of the joystick/controller. If your insurance bought the power chair for you they may cover the repair if it is not covered by the warranty.
Good luck!

I have 9 bars flashing and beeping. I know in the manual that this means parking brakes have a bad connection. How would I fix this problem?

Try to reset the brakes first. Turn off the power chair and move the manual brake levers from drive to park/push and rthen back into drive, then turn the chair back on to see if that reset the brake circuit and cleared the problem. If not, there may be a bad solenoid that is not triggering the brake to release so that you can operate the power chair. The motor assembly may need to be replaced to fix the problem in that case, which can be costly. Call the manufacturer and speak with their Technical Support for more longer under warranty. Good luck!

The chair suddenly lost power and now the lights flash continuously. The chair won't take a charge. A repairman tried fixing it at a local shop and said he put a new battery in and it sizzled. Now he is...

If he put in the batteries (2) properly, they should never sizzle. Some will emit a very minute spark when the final connection is made, but that is normal. There are fuses coming off of each battery to the power controller that will blow at 40 to 100 amps or so, depending on the chair; these will blow before the chair frying, or the circuit breaker will trip, or the controller will fry and all will be quiet on the chair, so I am going to say that the batteries weren't properly hooked up, otherwise on of the above items would have shut everything down. Continuous flashes indicate trying to start the chair while it is still on the charger, or with the joystick off-center. Make sure it is unplugged and notohing is resting against the joystick. If it's still a no-go, then you have either a joystick issue or controller issue. You will need to test those by replacing with known good controller/joystick, which a dealer should be able to do for you. Good luck.

Sounds like your chair is overheating. Most power wheelchairs have a thermal device that shuts off the chair when it senses an increase in temperature. The leaking fluid is most likely coming out of your gearbox. If the chair is less than a year old everything should be under warranty. Maybe two on the motors  I don`t know of any dealers in S. Illinois. Try Googling one. Your batteries are possibly ok. Tell the dealer your "motor/gearbox" is overheating and your batteries are fine. If you go in asking about batteries they will try to sell u some.

Chair will not go up or down

The clicking is the mechanical part of the switch, but the electrical part may still be bad. In all the chairs I have serviced, it has always been the switch. The switch itself goes for about $25 plus labor to change it, and the whole control unit retails for about $100. the best test is to take the controller apart and short out the center wire to either side and check the chair for movement.
