Question about Dyson Vacuums

Open Question

My dyson dc65 was just working properly. I shut it off for a moment... turned it on and the beater bar worked BUT as soon as I set the dyson upright to use the hose, it shuts off.

SOURCE: beater bar on Dyson upright won't turn when handle is lowered

I have finally fixed my sister's dyson dc 15 beater bar problem. It was just 2 tiny broken wires connect to circuit board lead to the beater bar. The wires broke where they go through the black rubber gommet. You need a torx screwdriver tx 15 to remove 2 plastic covers to access the wires. When looking at the front of the vacuum, the gray covers located on the right side of the vacuum. 1 big cover with a black rubber gasket and other small gray cover is on the rotating ball area.
This my new year resolution is to warn people not to buy Dyson vacuum cleaner ( Junk) design to break down! Shame on you Dyson!!!! Save your money find good old vacuum cleaner with metal parts.

Happy New Year!

SOURCE: upright positon dyson won't work

Have you checked your permanent filter? Have you checked the hoses for clogs. As a last resort you can disassemble the cyclone and clean it. If the vac is less than 5 years old, Dyson will probably send you a new Cyclone to replace yours.
Also check that you have the gasket inside the center of the bottom of the clear canister on the right way. If it is backwards your suction will be much less

SOURCE: dyson animal 17 the floor part works but when you stand upright to use hose is shuts off?

    Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty with your DC17. If the machine shuts off when standing in the upright position, it may be overheating due to a blockage in the wand, hose or U-bend. The easiest way to check for and remove any blockages is to follow the steps shown in our online support guide:

It's also a good idea to give the filter a wash - in normal use this should be done at least once every 3-6 months, as shown in the video below. Use cold water without detergent, and allow at least 24 hours for it to dry completely before replacing it.

This should resolve the issue, but for any further assistance please call us free on 1-866-693-9766 or email us at

    Best wishes,

Suction: I took the beater head off to get debris out from under it. when I put it back on I didn't have suction on the beater part. I have suction to there but none under neath

Hello, this is Ava with Think Crucial.

Most of the time the reason why vacuum is not picking up is due to loss of suction. You may need to check for blockages of your wand and hose. Remove the wand and hose from your cleaner when checking for blockages and any damages. Make sure to turn off and unplug your vacuum from the power before doing this. Please refer to this troubleshooting guide for more information on how you can remove blockages:

How do I reset the suction on a DC65 Dyson upright when it stops sucking?

Hi Gari, it's Jack at Dyson.

If you've noticed a change in the performance of your DC65, this is likely to be due to a blockage, and the filters may also need a wash. I'm confident that by following the steps shown into the videos below, you can remove any obstructions and restore full performance to your vacuum:

You may also want to give both filters a wash with cold water without detergent, if this hasn't been done recently. In normal use this should be done at least once every three months. Make sure both filters are completely dry before replacing them - this could take at least 24 hours:

If you'd like further help or advice after giving these steps a try, please call our experts directly on 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

My dyson dc 17 does not work when in the upright position

I had this same issue today, after not being able to find a solution, I took apart the brush area by unscrewing the three simple screws... my belt had a TON of dog and cat hair built up inside it so I cleaned that out and it did the trick.
