Where can I find a repair manual for a singer 401a

Search the Sewing Dude's site
http://sewingdude.wordpress.com/
the search window is in the lower right of his homepage. He has the manual but has had problems with people selling it on ebay, so I am only leading you halfway there (one search will get it for you).

Singer 401A sewing gears are stuck, they want to move but will not budge. The motor turns fine.

it's possible that a part in the sewing machine is damaged and that may be why it can respond, it would be a good idea to have the machine checked at a sewing machine shop.

Singer 401A gears will not move. I can wind bobbins all day but the gears to sew are frozen they try to move but will not.

the gears or some part in the sewing machine could be damaged, I suggest having the machine checked to see what is wrong inside the machine hindering it from sewing.

I need a repair book for singer 431 sewing machine book for a

Hi Elizabeth,
I also have a German Singer 431G. Haven't been able to find a Service Manual
for it. The guts are probably very similar to the US Singer 401A, you may be able to refer to that.

You can download the very hard-to-find technical Singer 401A SERVICE MANUAL == FOR FREE==
(in the back of the 301A Manual - then scroll down to page 125):
http://en.allexperts.com/q/Sewing-3237/2009/3/Singer-401A-5.htm I'm looking for help with Chainstitching. Do you have those instructions in your 431G User Manual? Also looking for the PART NUMBER of the 431 Chainstitch Throat Plate.

On AMERICA Online, I am PattBHS66.

Contact me and we can talk.

Thanks. And Good Luck!

Happy Thanksgiving!

The bobbin in my 401A jamsafter sewing only a few inches leaving a knotted "mess" on the fabric . How can I repair this?

Something is not threaded right on the top, or the thread is tangled. Take the thread completely out and rethread. Also, make sure that no thread is caught in the bobbin area, if necessary take bobbin casing out and clean with a brush. Always turn the handwheel towards you, never away from you because it can mess up the timing, Also google Singer 401a there is a great blog on this machine

These two sites may be of some help.
