High compression and need to eat your wheaties.

Some of those units can be a bear to start - might have to get one with a compression release for easier starting.

Pull the spark plug and hold the side against the engine while pulling the string. check to see if there is a spark you may need another person to help. Was the air filter oily when you cleaned it? If so you might need to remove and clean the carburetor.

Take the spark plug out and fill the cylinder with oil. Place a piece of electrical tape over the spark plug wire opening. Let it set for an hour or so, leave the plug out and try to pull the cord to see if the piston will move freely. If it does, remove the electrical tape, install the plug, connect the plug wire, fill with the correct mixture of fuel, and attempt to start. Note: cover the spark plug hole with a cloth or shop rag to catch any excess oil that will be expelled when you pull the cord through. If it is still frozen.... may be time for a new one.

The string in the spool of the weed eater is stuck. How can I remove the string and how can I avoid this problem in the future? I'm using the pre-cut strings. Thanks

Sounds like one of the loops is over the one being fed out. Does that make sense? I hope so. If one of the windings of string is over another, it makes it hard to unwind. Maybe if you were to put on a glove and really pull on the string, it would start to unwind. Other than that, pull the head and check the string. Good luck...Lee

I have a Cub Cadet cc4125 string trimmer not starting

need a little more information .. but look for the following .. take out the spark plug and look inside with a flashlight ... if the piston is moving with the rotation of the flywheel then you likely have a blown head gasket .. if there is no compression there wont be a load on the pull cord .. a cracked or damaged piston can also do this .. ... if the piston is not moving when you rotate the flywheel then you likely have a bad "shear key" sometimes called a "shear pin" .. thats usually a half moon shaped small metal part that keeps the flywheel locked rotationally to the crankshaft .. it is designed to shear off if there is an excessive sudden load on the engine .. the flywheel will then spin without turning the crankshaft .. the same thing will happen if you have broken the connecting rod .. (a rod failure is often preceded by lots of clatter from the engine) .. the head gasket or shear key are much more likely to be your problem .. if you cant see in the spark plug hole you might try using a straw to feel the piston motion .. its possible that without the spark plug in place the piston might move even with a bad shear pin .. because with no compression the piston will move freely .. if thats the case you can stop the piston motion with a wood dowell thru the spark plug hole .. if it moves in spite of your dowell resistance then consider the head gasket option ..

3 year old ryobi gas trimmer won't start...didn't winterize. I follow the start-up directions and it won't turn-over.

This could be caused by tons of problems. I'm going to assume you've checked the spark at the plug first. If not then you'll want to pull the plug out, leave connected to the wire and check to see if there's a blue spark when you pull the starter string. When my trimmer finally wouldn't start (or keep running) I found there were small cracks in the fuel lines. It was causing problems with the prime (for starting) and then with the running. My engine wasn't leaking fuel so it was hard to find.
