Carburetor probably needs cleaning and carburetor rebuild kit installed. You need a local that can determine which kit you will need based on the engine model and spec number.

My son's weedeater Model# MX550 doesn"t have a manual and he needs one to be able to rebuild or clean the carburator, as he left gasoline in it over last winter.

This is as easy as 1, 2, 3.
1. The weedeater manual for this machine will not tell him how to clean and rebuild a carburetor.
2. There are good videos on youtube for clean and rebuild of two cycle carburetors.
3. Using the brand and model number you will be able to get a carburetor rebuild kit for less than ten dollars I think from a local small engine repair and repair parts shop.

I hope this is helpful for you.

Hi knobbe69
Time to "mess" with your carburetor...sounds like that is where the problem lies...
I will include my instructions on the carburetor rebuilding....
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Check to make sure you are getting fire/spark at the plug, if so then do the following:
Check/Clean/Replace your fuel filter if you have one, normally they will be located in the fuel tank.
If the mower/weedeater is over a year old, then I recommend that you buy and install a new carburetor repair kit, because the diaphragm will get hard and that will cause it to be hard to crank.
Sounds like you will need to clean the carburetor or replace your carburetor internal rubber parts like the diaphgram and O rings.
Be sure to use compressed air to blow out all the fuel and air passages.
Be careful when blowing out the passages, because there are sometimes small rubber type seats in the bottom of some of the passages.
Sometimes you can get by with priming the carburetor or using starting fluid and letting it run a few times like that and it will flush the gunk out of the jets, but most of the time you will need to rebuild the carburetor.
Keep in mind that the float for the carburetor must be level when you go to reassemble the carburetor or follow the instrucitons you get with the carburetor kit.
When you clean your carburetor and remove the jet screws, you will first need to lightly seat the jet screws.
But before you lightly seat the jet screws count the number of turns it takes to seat the jet screws from their original position.
Be sure to mark the turns down on a piece of paper.
That way when you put the jets back in, you know to lightly seat them first and then turn them back out to their orginal position before you started.

I was given a Case tractor. It needed a fuel

Is your fuel pump working? are you getting fuel to the carb?

1. check for spark
2. check for compression in all cylinders
3. check carb (if it's been a long time since it was last started, you will need to just take the carb apart and clean it or get a carb rebuild kit. rebuild kit is easiest route and once you do that, you are done fussing with it.
4. Diagnose the problem.
a. try starting fluid directly into the carb. If it fires up then quits you have a fuel delivery problem. Once you figure out that, you can trace the problem back from the motor to the tank.
5. If you don't have any spark, try new plugs, then try new wires, then start going over your electrical system

Checking fluids

look for a tank reservoir with a dipstick. Locate the pump or cylinder and follow the line back to the tank.
