I need to get a copy of the recovery disc for the Gateway GM5048

My desktop constantly restarts itself to the point that I have not been able to see the windows screen. I am ready to do the system recovery but I can't locate the recovery discs that came with the computer. Can someone help me? Thanks

I tried a couple of weeks to get the recovery disc from Gateway but was told that they don't carry it.

Gateway sells the cds. If you tell them your model no they will send you a recovery disc (with a tiny fee of course).

Here's their number 866-539-3901

Try hitting f8 or f1 ( depends on your system) while its booting and see if you can get to the boot option screen. just keep tapping the f8 or f1 key while its starting. If you can, then choose the command prompt and type
At the command prompt type

c:\windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

Press Enter

Follow the instructions on the screen to use System Restore

Try to restore system to earlier time. you may have a virus. there is one that does that.

Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of.(from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones)
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Goodluck!

Gateway dx4380g-uw308 keeps restarting?

Windows 8 has a neat utility that is called "Refresh Your PC". This process does not change any of your files (documents, pics, vids, music, etc.). If you upgraded your PC from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 and your PC has a Windows 8 recovery partition, refreshing your PC will restore Windows 8. You'll need to upgrade to Windows 8.1 after the refresh has finished.

To refresh your PC

  1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, tap Settings, and then tap Change PC settings.
(If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, click Settings, and then click Change PC settings.)
  2. Tap or click Update and recovery, and then tap or click Recovery.
  3. Under Refresh your PC without affecting your files, tap or click Get started.
  4. Follow the instructions on the screen.

1. You didn't specify if you are installing Windows XP or which operating system.
I assume that you want to install Windows XP. I am not sure as to the age of this unit and if it is compatible with the above mentioned OS.
2. If you have a valid key then any Windows XP Operating disk will boot your PC unit provided you have allow the device in the bios to boot from it.
3. You will need to select the CD/dvd device to be enabled for the pc to see the boot disk. Usually selecting F12 or F1 will allow you into the BIOS setup for this.

You will need to ask your friend for the user manual to follow the bios setup procedure. I don't think there is a user manual for this model online anymore.

Video card removal

Okay first things first make sure you have unlocked the card from the case. Most Gateways have a card lock on it. Once it is unlocked just pull the card out, sometimes they are hard to pull out but you can get a small screw driver and pry up at the case side and slowly work it out.

Hope this helps.

Constantly reboots itself

The Gateway GT5220 has an AMD Athlon 64 processor. It has been documented that Windows XP SP3 doesn't play well with some AMD CPUs. I'm pretty sure this is one of them. I would suggest attempting a system recovery using a restore point on a date BEFORE you installed SP3. If that doesn't work, you might consider recovery using the original Gateway Restore CD. It will likely wipe the system, but that might be the only choice.

I would NOT start with the total reload option. We have a couple others before you get there, so try the restore point and then let me know the results. We'll go from there...

System recovery for Gateway GM5048

No that should have nothing to do with it......

What I can recommend is manually installing the drivers rather then going through the entire recovery process again. All of the drivers that you would need you can find here :

If you need help with anything more specfic feel free to leave a comment here and I can give you some more help!!
