Will need to put that back together because sounds like tensioner /engagement pulley which helps with making the blades turn

I replaed the blade drive mandrel and reattacheed the blade and the blade does not freelyturn t is so bound up tht I cannot turnit manually

okay check see if brakes is on the mower, not the tractor but the blades of the mower deck if not then take belt off of the new mandrel side and try turning blade by hand. should turn freely if not mandrel is bad but unlikely. sounds like you changed wrong side mandrel I presume you have 2 blades and mandrels. or when you installed it back on. the belt may be bound up between a guide and pulley just kind of look things over before a tear apart. and then do your tear apart one step at a time then check blade to see if it turns does not seem serious you may have put belt on wrong, I have done it my self. hope this helps major note do not do this with engine running cut you hand off in a flash.

I have an 18 hp craftsman tractor that is not cutting as great as it did. The clutch works, it runs great and cuts too. The problem comes when I am cutting, if I go onto a thicker patch of weeds or grass,...

Sounds like it is time for a new belt. If the belt is older than two years old, time to replace for sure. It may not look bad, but over time it gets narrower and narrower and can stretch a bit. This would be the main reason the blades aren't doing the job, especially if they have been sharpened. Most mowers have a tension pulley to keep the belt tight. It can't be adjusted as its on a spring system. Once the belt gets too narrow from wear or too stretched out, it has no way of putting additional pressure on the belt. They are easy to change and fairly inexpensive anyways. You may have to loosen a bracket or rod near the engine pulley to get the belt on or off.

Troy-bilt riding mower won't move in forward or reverse

I had a similar problem with my TroyBilt 50 inch zero turn mower. Was cutting grass when it stopped going either forward or backward even though it would start and the PTO would move the cutting blades. Turned out the tensioner spring for the belt that drives the motors near the rear wheels had gone missing. Searched the yard where I had cut and moved the machine but couldn't find it. A new one cost me about $7.50. Put the new one on and it worked fine.

I have a yardman 46 in cut riding mower, it is leaving grass in the middle. I have put new blades, change the belts, put on a new tention spring, so what is my problem?

Well one of the spindle assemblies, could be running a little slower on one side then the other. But I would take a guess that you are trying to cut grass, way too fast for the mower. Try running a ground speed a liitle slower and see what happens.
Good Day.

check for a broken belt tension er or maybe grass clippings under belt area, check for a broken or loose pulley bearing, even a bent shaft on the deck.

Craftsman 42" riding lawn mower blade free spinning but wont cut

It sounds to me that you need a new mower deck drive belt, or your blades need sharpening. If the blade edges are rounded, they won't cut butter... Also, when mower is off, check mower deck drive pulleys to make sure you don't have any that are locked up or are dragging. You can check this by pulling the belt away from pulley and spinning the pulley by hand. MOWER MUST BE OFF before attempting any of these checks. You would be surprised how many people would try this with the mower running.
Hope this helps
