SOURCE: Fills with Water and does

Hi, I don't have the best news for your here. This type of problem is caused by the timer, i.e. main control that you use to select cycles starting to fail. If I am correct, when you put the machine into a normal cycle, the knob rotates, but the machine is silent. Just sits there.
the older Maytags are a cut above many other machines on the market.
If you install the timer yourself, you will probably pay about $100.00 for the part.
If you supply me with the model number and serial number, I can give your some instruction on how to do it. They will be located on a placard probably on the top rear of the machine. If my memory serves me correctly
It is not a difficult job. does not require any expensive tools to do.
Hope this helps,
Have a Happy New Year,
Mark

Delicate cycle fills with water but will not agitate

Timer needs cleaning on the delicate relays (points) in the delicate position. Maybe timer failure. Transmission stuck, jammed or failing in that wash mode

Washing machine will not start the wash cycle after filling with water. I have tried normal, delicate, and heavy duty cycles.

Not sure what model you are referring to, but in general, it sounds like a problem with the timer switch or if it's all electronic, then it will be in the control board.
If I had the model number I could be of more assistance.

Lint on the clothes. The machine has an automatic lint filter. How do I get rid of this problem?

automatic lint filter means it goes out the drain when the water drain, nice how they make that sound all fancy huh. make sure there is more water than clothes and whatever your washing is not delicate you have to wash delicates with the delicate cycle

The automatic delicate drying cycle does not dry

The delicate cycle is for damp, not wet delicate items. It is more warm air then hot and will not dry wet items forsay. If you have delicate items that need more drying try putting them inside a pillow case and tying the end closed long with a higher setting. Works great with stuffed toys too

Wash cycle won't start after the tub fills up with water.

There's no delicate or regular spin or agitation If your washer doesn't spin or agitate on either the delicate or regular cycle, check these:

Selector switch
Clutch assembly
Drive motor
Selector switch If your washer has a selector switch on the control panel, make sure the button for your selection is pressed all the way in, or set properly.

Clutch assembly Many GE®/Hotpoint® washers use a clutch and an automatic shift lever. This assembly is quite complicated. If there's a problem with it, you probably should contact a qualified appliance repair technician.

Drive motor Many washing machines have multiple-speed drive motors. Though it's uncommon, the drive motor may work fine on one speed but not on another. If the drive motor has failed on one speed, you need to replace the entire motor.
