Yes, the light, cooling fan and turntable all come on. There is a "different sound to the fan, and it doesn't microwave.

    When you hit Start to
microwave, do the inside light, cooling fan, and turntable all
    come on?

It's almost certainly a shorted high voltage rectifier diode or a failed magnetron.

We have the service / repair manual for this model and have uploaded it to our site here for free download to help you.

It will give you safety info, step by step help in disassembly, troubleshooting tips, and part numbers.

Here are some handy links you or someone you know can use for test help:

http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/diode.html
(if it's not shorted or burned, it's probably okay)

http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/mag_test.html

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

You can also find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

If it's within the magnetron portion of the warranty (for this model it's 10 years from the date on the tag inside the unit) but out of the original full warranty (1 year), then your manufacturer will cover the part cost, but not the cost to visit you or the labor charge to do the work.

G.E. they will send you the magnetron to do it yourself. Call them at 888-239-6832.

Be persistent. You may have to speak with a supervisor.

If it is not within the magnetron warranty, you can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

Accessing some components (especially the oven cavity thermostat) for testing and possible replacement will require you to remove the oven from the wall and take off the outer cover.

If so, the installation instructions are very handy, and it's best to have two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

You can download GE owner's manuals and installation instructions here.

Have ge profile spacesaver xl sensor. will not heat strange buzzing sound and burning smell. clock, light, vent still work

This is most likely a defective magnetron, especially with the burning smell. There are two other parts that can be a problem, the high voltage capacitor and diode, all three work together to heat food. If the magnetron is the culprit, probably cheaper to replace the microwave oven.

Have Spacemaker Microwave--JVM1630WB 004. started cooking ,heard a POP!! , and it did not cook the food. smelled like burnt wires or capacitor. No fire. fuse did not blow. Any suggestions ?

I had the same thing happen to my 20 year old Frigidare microwave (it was 8 years old at the time). Same POP!, same failure. Though I'm handy with electrical, I don't mess around with the innards of a microwave. There are lethal doses of electricity stored in some capacitors even when the device is unplugged. I took mine to an appliance repair shop that works on microwaves. In my case, a high-end capacitor had blown. The repair cost me $80.00. $5.00 for the part, $75.00 for the labor. My microwave is still working 12 years later.

My solution is not pleasant. If you call a tech out to your house, his charge for labor and parts will probably be more than the cost of a new microwave. Taking it to a repair shop is cheaper, but you would want an estimate first which in itself will not be free of charge.

New microwaves have come down in price over the years. Countertop models for as little as $100.00. Over the range models starting at about $250.00.

Whatever you decide, this is going to cost you some money. Your microwave is dead. Good luck and hope I've helped a bit.

Have a GE "Spacemaker II Sensor" microwave oven. When we try to cook now, it trys but the food does not get hot. Something is getting hot becasue there is a distinctive smell, perhaps like a burnt IC or...

you will need to find the source of the burning. it could be a cheap fix or more involved depending on the component. it could be a transformer, h.v.diode, magnetron, etc. if the diode is shorted, there is a good chance magnetron is defective too.

Ge jvm1630wb-006 making loud buzzing sound when on-heats ok

If the buzzing sound is present even when you are not cooking, then the problem is almost certainly a failing electrolytic on the control circuit board.

We regularly repair this problem for $39.95 postpaid for folks all around the country.

Ge microwave jvm160wj01 was working and suddenly started buzzing, gave bad electric/burnt smell and buzzes. Still buzzes and does not seem to heat now.

Sounds like the magnetron just shorted out. Its the part the generates the microwaves that heat the food. Buzzing sounds are a symptom of a shorted mag. Usually not worth fixing since the magnetron costs almost as much as a new oven. Sorry.

GE Spacemaker microwave oven - Sensor error

Hello :

Many models of the GE microwave have sensors that can detect humidity from the foods you are cooking. This allows the microwave to make adjustments to the power levels used to cook your food. If "Sensor Error" appears, you should either press "Clear" to cancel the mode or leave the food in the appliance longer to give the microwave more time to detect the food.

Press "Time Cook" to manually enter the time if you receive an error message when trying to use the "Sensor Reheat" mode of your GE microwave. The error message may be caused by the food item being too large or too small to detect
..

good luck .

Microwave works perfectly but does not heat

Sadly your microwave has done it's last cooking. The mechanism you need to make it cook again would cost you more than a replacement microwave.

GE Spacemaker XL1800(JVM1850CF001) - Loud Humming noise

You either have a bad magnetron tube (5 or 10 year parts warranty item through GE Factory Service 1-800-432-2737 or www.geappliances.com) or a shorted high voltage rectifier. I think the light being out is a secondary problem.
