Re: Not sayinstreet names.
After you turn on your unit touch the wrench icon in the bottom right of the screen, this will take you to a menu which features "Settings" in the upper left of the screen. Touch "settings" and scroll down to "language" by using the up and down buttons in the lower right of the screen (down 1 should do it). Touch "Language" and in the voice category find and select "American English - Jill (TTS)". This is the voice that will give you Text To Speech (TTS) speaking the street names in English. If you prefer Spanish or French, find the appropriate catergories with "(TTS)" beside them - "Espanol Americas - Paulina (TTS)" and "Francais Canadien - Julie (TTS)" respectively. Any other selection will only give directional instructions such as "turn left in XXX".

After you have selected your voice press "OK" and back out to your main menu showing "Where to?" and View Map".

Now, when you navigate, you should hear an American female voice giving you directions by street name - assuming your volume is high enough to hear it.

RE: The computer icon displaying when you try to use your unit in the car with the 12 VDC cord.
You probably have a problem with the cord. The pin length in the USB style connector is critical and if it doesn't match up just right the GPS thinks it is hooked up to a computer. If you know someone who has a Garmin NUVI try using their cord and see if you have the same problem. Either way, call Garmin and see if they will send you a replacement cord or otherwise help fix the problem.

Guys and or ladies... I know that you have to create a folder named "GARMIN" in the sd card so the maps can be recognize. Maybe this solves your problem. Let me know if it works.

I have motevo installed in my corolla 2012 altis but the GPS maps needs update rather system need update. how to manage as system is not working

What do you mean by "Not working"? If you cannot get to the settings screen on the Motevo you will not be able to update it. Updates are often done by using a USB memory stick or a Micro SD card. You use a computer or a laptop to download the updates from the Motevo website onto the memory stick/SD card then plug that into the Motevo unit in the car. You then go to the settings and select the update option.

Hi, do you know if I can install City Select maps I bought for a previous Garmin device now out of order, on a new Garmin 1490T preloaded with City Navigator ? thanks

If you want to test the maps on your new Garmin you can do one of two things. Either you can copy the maps onto an SD card and then insert the card into your GPS. You can also connect the GPS to your computer with the USB cable that was supplied with you unit. Using whatever file manager you normally use with your version of Windows (Windows Explorer, Total Commander, etc), you will be able to see your Garmin GPS as another drive on your system. You can then copy your City Select maps over to your Garmin.

Once you have the maps either directly on your Garmin GPS or on a microSD card, you have to choose to use those maps. From the main screen of your GPS choose Tools>Settings>Map. If your City Select maps are compatible with your GPS they will show up in the list of maps. To make use of the map just choose it by touching the name of the map. Your Garmin will then load that map and display it. If your City Select maps do not show up in the list, or if you choose them and they do not load or give you an error then they are not compatible with your 1490T.

If you need anymore information or help please let me know. Thank you.

When i open my memory card in my file manager a MSDC write sector error appear. What Shall I Do

Garmin maps on SD card are not intended to be useful outside the GPS. You can't download the data to use elsewhere, use it in Mapsource, etc. Only in the GPS.

This is why it is common to buy the DVD version and install the mapset on your own SD card.

I believe this is the root of the problem. If you believe the card itself is defective give Garmin a call/email and they will replace it. It is not likely the case, though, based on my experience helping people with Garmin SD problems.

I need help installing a map onto a gramin sat nav

No. They are refering to maps sent from the computer to the Garmin device. Maps are not transferred off the SD card to the unit. Simply insert the SD card into the device and the Garmin will read the maps from the card.
to double check follow these steps
  1. Power on the unit with the card in
  2. Press Tools
  3. Press Settings
  4. Press Map
  5. Press Info (or map info)
This page should list out both your UK and Ireland maps(old as dirt) and your new Benelux and France maps as well

Garmiin nuvi gps,

The device uses SD cards actually. They will not however work with TOPO maps or Bluechart. They are primarily for loading media or city street maps for other country's.

GARMIN 510 2009 MAPS

I'm quite sure you need to purchase the 2009 City Navigator SD card to update the maps. That what I did last year to get the 2008 City Navigator maps. You will need to leave the SD card in the unit to use the new maps though..

I haven't been able to determine whether it's possible to update the actual install map on the device. I'm guessing it's possible but would require a computer and an map update to write directly to the device. If I find steps to update the installed maps, I will post them here.

Downloading mapsets

Every time you download it wipes the entire memory card. You have to select all the maps you want stored on the card each time you add a new map. To keep from selecting all the maps everytime you want to download you can save the file in your mapsource software then just add or delete maps from your original map list.

All the mapsets that are installed in your PC should appear in the menu bar on a dropdown list. If you click on it you should see "bluechart" city navigator" etc, if you installed them correctly.

Choose one of the map sets, such as bluechart, from the dropdown list and all the maps from that set should appear on the screen.

As you select individual maps from the map set they will be loaded onto a maplist wich should appear under a tab on the left side of your computer screen.

Then go back to the menu bar and pick your next mapset, such as city navigator. A new map set will appear on the screen but the maps you selected from the previous set will still be on the map list on the left side of the screen.

I hope this helps. Please reply if you have questions about my response.
