Tb144 troy bilt tiller, starts and idles fine, after it warms up, you can give it gas and it runs fine. when you let off the gas and return to a idle, then try to give it gas agian, it will die. then it...

Sounds like you have a dirty gas problem.
Empty the tank and remove it, clean it out and before refilling filter the gas to remove contaminants.
If this fails the problem is the carburator.
Remove it and disassemble and allow the body to soak in gasoline for about 15 minutes. the blow out all the port with compressed air and reassemble.
It doesn't take much to clog up those litte carbs.

Troy bilt mower ran fine then died and now it wont start back. It has fire and a new spark plug. It gets fuel past the filter. It starts if i put a small amount of gas into the intake. Whats wrong? My...

Remove the air filter and set aside.
Take a can of carburetor cleaner and spray the inside of the carburetor.
Let it set for a moment and then try starting the engine. It should run a few seconds. Repeat. When it starts squirt a small shot of cleaner in the carburetor to keep it running. That should remove the varnish the gas leaves as it evaporates over the winter.

If it still won't keep running then there is trash in the float bowl plugging the needle valve seat and the jets.

1) Turn off the gas or remove the gas line and plug it with a small screw or stick to keep it from leaking out of the gas tank.
2) Look on the bottom of the bowl for a nut .
3) Remove the nut and drop the float bowl.
4) Carefully remove the pin holding the float and needle valve assembly.
5) Take the carburetor cleaner with the straw it comes with and spray every hole in the carburetor to clean the jets . (up through the needle valve seat, down top of the carburetor , see a hole, spray it with the cleaner.)
6) Clean the float bowl.
7) Reassemble and make sure the gas isn't leaking and try to start it again.

Could be any of several problems. Since you indicate you just bought it, I'd suggest you return it. Troy-Bilt is pretty good at making customers happy and should repair or replace it right away.

Motor seems to be seized

ensure that the motor oil in it was not presivation oil. some machines have a thick oil put in it to stop the engine rusting if stored for a long time this needs to be replaced before starting the engine. if the engine oil is dark and very thick this may be the case and the engine will need to be stripped to dislodge the piston. but that usually happens in a longer time than 10 seconds.
if not then suspect the motor has had some major mechanical failure such as a crank shaft break. remove the injectors or plugs to see if the motor will crank round without compression.

Troy built tiller starts chugs along and then kills full size mod

I'm sorry you are having trouble with your Troy-Bilt Tiller. I have a genuine Troy-Bilt and I miss the original manufacturer and the help they provided me with my 30 year old machine.

I believe your trouble is in the needle valve adjustment. If you check the bottom of the carb, you will find the needle valve. It should be open about 1 1/2 turns and then fine tuned open or closed a bit to get the best speed. There is the possibility that your carb is dirty inside and could benefit from some carb or injector cleaner. You may also benefit from installing a new spark plug as well. Sometimes, in older engines, you can benefit from using a spark plug one or two heat ranges higher. You will have to experiment with these options to find the best for your situation.

I hope you find these suggestions to be of some benefit.
