being a fact that JVC camcorders are very trouble prone, it would probably be a better ideal & cheaper to buy a new camcorder.
for your next camcorder purchase, i would stay away from anything made by JVC.

In most closed caption CC menus there are options for CC1 - CC4, and Text 1 - Text 4. Try messing with those setting...?

Go into menu and under CLOSED CAPTIONS look to see if TEXT is engaged---if it is set to text 1 turn it off or to text 2,3,4, etc
Text was a feature never really used but it is there, some cable boxes also have this setting/feature.
