The orange is for the 'on' time setting. Slip it on the timer dial for the time you want to come on.. The shaded times are PM. Set the black for the time you want to go off, just slip it on the dial over the edge.

How do you set lighting to turn on and off throughout the day?

You posted under Malibu power pack.
If you have analog dial that rotates as time passes, then setting on-off times is accomplished by using black and red tripper.

Usually the timer comes with 2 red ON trippers and 2 black OFF trippers.
Place trippers on outer edge of dial and then set timer according to instruction manual.

If you need more trippers, they can be ordered

I want to replace the cord/plug is it easy?

Malibu power packs are 1-piece units that can't be taken apart.
However you can cut off the cord and leave about 4-6" of cord sticking out, and then splice into the cord that's sticking out.

Usually I buy heavy orange or black extension cord with male-female plugs on each end.
I cut off female end and use that end to splice into the cord that's sticking out.

How to splice wire.
Use knife and slice down the cord lengthwise... just cut through the outer plastic covering.
Pull the outer cover cover back to reveal black and white wires.
Cut off extra cover.
Cut back insulation on each black and white wire.
Now you have 2 black wires and 2 white wires/
Twist together the copper wire on whites and cover with plastic electrician tape.
Do the same with copper wires on blacks.
Now the blacks are joined/ and whites are joined, and each has tape over copper wire.
Wrap black tape around both sets of wires until all the black and white is covered with several wraps of tape.
That's it. Plug it in.
