I would replace the user interface board. I am assuming you have a Maxithurm heater. The thermister is sending info to the temp comtrol on the user interface. A model would help me to be more accurate.

The heater won't start. The temp reading is 126 F all the time. The thermistor resistance changes with temp change. No diagnostic lights are on. Does it need a control board or is there another test?

Mine is doing the same. StaRite/Pentair tech support says the thermister needs to be replaced. I have one on order and will update on my status when I get the part replaced.

Ref: Sta-Rite Max-E 400. Pool temp is about 75

Your temp sensor has gone bad and will need to be replaced. It's a small tube that slides into the water manifold and you can follow the wires back to the board. Just unplug and set a new one in place.

The heater starts and runs and heats, but on the control it reads 105 but the water temp is 80. the heater shuts off at 105

Thank you for posting your question here on Fixya.com.

The part you will need is called a thermistor; it is the part that reads water temp and converts it to a digital signal for the board to display. The part number should be 42001-0053S. If you need additional details or troubleshooting tips, try the owner’s manual, here. You should be sure that there is no potential problems with water flow prior to just replacing the part. In extreme cases you could have poor water flow and the water in the heater is way too hot (105) yet the pool is much cooler. Generally you will have other indications this is the problem, such as a lot of banging and popping, like making microwave e popcorn. If that’s not the case, the thermistor is the way to go

If this answer does not fix your problem, please comment with additional details prior to rating the answer. Positive feedback is appreciated once your problem is solved!

Water Temp on heater reads 126 degrees F

I am not sure if you have resolved this issue, or not, but just in case. Yes, the problem is the Thermistor. This is a sensor that "reads" the incoming water temp. It is really easy to replace as well.

Sta Rite Sr333na Max E Therm Pool & Spa Heater gauge stuck?

Anytime the heater is reading the water temp to be above what it actually is, especially 126, the problem is the Thermistor, or Temp Sensor, for the heater. This is a very easy part to replace. The Thermistor is located on the manifold, on the left side, between the top two bolts.

Sorry this is a late response! Hope that it helps!
