Question about Teac (DW-224EA-AM6) CD-RW/DVD-ROM (Combo) Burner

1 Answer

Hp DVD Writer 300n forgot it was a DVD drive

When I put a DVD in the drive nothing happens, if I try to open the drive manually it opens to a blank page that asks if I want to write files to this drive, It will read Cds fine and when I go to properties it says "This device is working properly" . Under device type it says "DVD/CD-ROM drives", but under manufacturer it says (Standard CD-ROM drives).
A little info that may be helpful is that (My Pc is a HP Pavillion a350n and I was having this problem and a few others with the original boot disks for this PC, so I purchased a windows XP pro OS and did a clean install, I have uninstalled it and restarted so that it reinstalled, still the same problem, I ran Tweaknow reg cleaner, it found problems but not with this. I know it almost has to be a software conflict but have no idea how to find the conflict. Please is there anyone who can help.

Somehow I posted this in the wrong place, I am sorry. The picture is not mine, I didn't post a picture. This is the DVD drive that came preinstalled in my PC.

Okay, this problem is easy.

First of all, check to see what type of media the drive supports in DVD. Is it +R or -R.
Next, not all BIOSes recognize DVD drives. From the picture you displayed there, it looked like a laptop DVD drive.

Make sure that the BIOS does support it by going to the manufacturer's website and look at the replacement parts.

If it does support this type of drive, but not from the initial product, you may need to upgrade the BIOS so it can recognize the drive.

This should solve your problem.

The method I told you still applies to any type of CD/DVD burner. This should solve your problem.

Most DVD drives are also CD drives, and it sounds like the DVD part is broken, you need to replace the DVD drive, this is done simply by buying a new one, I recommend ( if your unsure search exactly what you already have) then opening your case (tower) and just unplugging old one and plugging new one in, it really is very doable for even a novice.

Put your Windows product CD/DVD into the drive.
Reboot your computer, and tell it to _first_ try to boot from the CD/DVD drive, to see if it reads the disk.

HP CD Drive Will Not Open

Take a pin/needle, and stick it in the small hole which should be somewhere on the front of the dvd rom. This should open the drive a bit, so that u can pull it out. then close it, and try if it opens then. If it doesnt, then you will have to grease the sides of the slide (from the bottom) a bit with vaseline. open and close it manualy a few times, and try then. If it still dont work then, then you may need to replace the little black bellt which it has just underneath the tray, towards the front of the drive.

    Good luck
