My miller 185 blue star won't stay running its like starving for fuel what could it be

I've replaced my idle module , my spark plug, cleaned my carbureter plenty compression just won't start

SOURCE: carbs were removed and cleaned. now starts hard and does not idle

sounds like carbs not cleaned right, oh try changing fuel filter, does fuel pump run constantly. if you cant hear it you can feel it, up behind the ignition. Berrymans B12 fuel additive works wonders. double dose add to gas run bike til hot then let stand overnight, pray a lot and try it again.

have you tried setting the idle scerw on carb? if not that try the oil/air mixture screw on carb, i had a tzr that had same prob and it was down to setting up them 23 little screws

Look for a pinched/bare stop-switch wire (I assume that you don't have spark now). Also, check the ignition coil core gap to the flywheel magnets (I use card stock to set the gap). Make sure the plug wire was not damaged again.

Truck is starting up but wont stay running, replaced fuel filter, fuel pump is turning on, check fuses, relay all is fine what else could it be?


Could be many things. Need to diagnose is it fuel starving or spark issue. Fuel pressure gauge can often be gotten as a loan-a-tool item from parts store. Test for pressure at key on, and see if it drops as car tries to start. Check spark at plugs for nice fat blue spark. Does spark go away as it dies?

My miller blue star 185 wont idle up when you start welding


Check your idle control module,
take the roof off of your welder, located at the top right of the inner control panel, it is the little red box with multiple white leads connected to it and labeled with alphabet letters.
pull the connectors, insure they are clean, reconnect them, start your welder and see if that corrects the problem, if not, you will need to purchase a new idle control module

fuel filter or a fuel pump could also be plugs, wires, cap and rotor I would try fuel filter first then take a plug off a cylinder and hold it close to screw driver or something(dont hold unless have rubber to grip to please dont get shocked) if it doesnt spark your not getting spark and try plugs wires cap and rotor if it does spark then open gas lid have someone turn ignition switch on and listen if you here the fuel pump is still good if not replace it. It does sound like a fuel pump

Husqvarna weed eater starts , but blows alot of smoke & then stalls out


Rod, Carb. may need adjusted, try loosening gas cap and start to see if cap vent plugged, there is a in tank fuel filter that you could fish out and remove to see if it is plugged. If still not running remove muffler and clean spark arrester screen, if screen plugged the trimmer will do this.

My 1998 yamaha v-star sat for about 3 months and now won't stay started unless the choke is out


Hi, Jeff if your bike has been sitting idle for months or years and you did not do any pre-storage maintenance I feel your pain it will probably have a dead battery and not want to start or if it starts it will idle and run poorly, here are the following steps necessary to complete in order to get your bike back to an acceptable running condition.
1. If your battery was 2-3 years old when you last had the bike running you should replace it.
2. If you believe your battery might still be serviceable remove it from the bike and put it on a 1 or 2 amp trickle charger for 24 hours. If it is the old lead acid type with visible cells and acid levels fill each cell to the top line with distilled water and replace the caps, run the vent tube into a plastic or styrofoam cup, any cells that are cloudy/milky replace the battery.
3. After charging remove the leads and let the battery sit for a couple of hours then check the battery voltage with a volt meter, you should have 12.5 volts or better, any readings in the 11 volt range you need to do a proper load test on the battery and replace as necessary, any readings in the 10 volt range you have a dead cell and replace the battery.
4. Drain and flush fuel tank, google " how to clean a motorcycle gas tank" find a couple forums to view the different options available.
5. Remove your air cleaner and clean and re-oil per Mfg. specifications.
6. Remove the carburetor, disassemble and decontaminate with a carb dip or if you have EFI remove injectors and clean with carb spray and compressed air
7. Remove fuel valve and filter disassemble and clean as necessary, remove fuel lines and replace with new ones.
8. Replace spark plug with a new one and check for spark.

take off the muffler and try it there is a screen inside that get plugged up with carbon you can open the muffler to clean it

My yamaha roadstar is a 2004 and runs rough at low speeds in 1st thru 3rd gears, misses some, and runs perfectly at higher speeds in 5th gear. When its cold start on cylinder seems to have a small pop


Hi, Buzzy and the usual suspects are:
1. Severely discharged or a damaged battery, should have 12.5 volts or better and be able to pass a load test if necessary.
2. Check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
3. Spark plugs in bad condition or partially fouled.
4. Spark plug cables in bad condition and leaking check for spark leakage in the dark
5. Spark plug gap too close or too wide.
6. Faulty ignition coil, module, and or sensor.
7. Loose, dirty, or corroded ignition module connector at crankcase.
8. Faulty CKP or CMP, MAP, ETS, ATS, TPS, O2 sensor.
9. Dirty air filter.
10. Intake air leak.
11. Water, dirt, or rust in the fuel system.
12. Carburetor damaged, contaminated, sticky float, plugged jets.
13. Multiple carburetors out of sync.
14. Fuel filter clogged.
15. Old or contaminated fuel.
16. Fuel tank vent system plugged or carb vent line closed off.
17. Gas cap diaphragm valve faulty.
18. Vacuum line from intake manifold to fuel valve is broken, cracked, pinched, or missing.
19. Carburetor controls misadjusted.
20. Incorrect valve timing.
21. Valve springs floating, weak, or broken.
22. Damaged intake or exhaust valve.
23. Incompatible performance parts.
24. Control module may be in "LIMP" mode
25. Check for engine trouble codes.

I have a vw jetta gl mk2 that turns over and starts but won't stay running I've tried everything I can think of the plugs have spark and it is getting fuel but won't run

My 2002 1100 v star classic does not run on the front cylinder, has spark, has compression, front cylinder stays cold. Back cylinder runs on spark, fuel, compression, no problem. Give any throttle and bike...


How good did you clean the carbs? The idle jets usually have small holes along the side, and if they are blocked with dirt or bad fuel, it won't idle. Make sure ALL of the passages are clear, and all jets are clear, through the center and holes in the sides of the pilot jets.

Bike won't stay Running


Hi, Jami the following applies to carbureted also fuel injected models and the usual suspects are:
1. Severely discharged or a damaged battery, should have 12.5 volts or better and be able to pass a load test if necessary.
2. Failed alternator/generator and or voltage regulator.
3. Loose or corroded battery terminals and or cables especially the "NEGATIVE" cable, look for loose, corroded, or broken connectors inside the cable harness at "BOTH" ends.
4. Failed main circuit breaker or ignition switch, check for loose connections and continuity.
5. Failed system and or ignition relay, check for continuity.
6. Failed ignition coil, ignition/electronic module.
7. Failed CKP, CPS, CMP, MAP, TPS, or BAS sensor, corroded, loose or broken wire connector pins/sockets.
8. Throttle cables and or idle speed improperly adjusted hot idle speed should be 950 RPM to 1000 RPM.
9. Air/fuel mixture screw improperly adjusted.
10. Accelerator pump damaged or not working.
11. Water or dirt in the fuel system, carburetor or filter.
12. Restricted, blocked or kinked fuel line.
13. Fuel tank empty.
14. The gas cap is not venting properly or fuel tank venting system blocked.
15. A failed fuel pump, pressure regulator and or fuel injectors.
16. Vacuum line from intake manifold to petcock broken, cracked, or not attached, carburetor vent line plugged.
17. Needle and seat stuck closed in the float bowl.
